Anti-nuclear antibodies (ANAs) are antibodies that your body produces against itself. It is something of an immune disorder in which the immune system fails to recognize some cellular component as being native to the host, and thereby marshalls the antibody-response against it, which may lead to chronic inflammation due to an inappropriate immune response.

ANAs are typically associated with rheumatologial diseases like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, etc, and may be ordered on blood tests to confirm the doctor's suspicions about one of these illnesses
