I am asking a very specific question - if we leave without achieving our goal of a peaceful, relatively stable government that can defend itself from external and internal enemies, what will the consequences be for the US?

I'm not asking how we got there. But what will happen if we leave.

What say you? Thanks.

The US cannot afford a loss in Iraq because of the unstable conditions in the geographic area. It is not about oil, it is about self determination If all the internal strife would stop The US would be out of there in a flash, then they could vote in what ever type govenrment they wanted, but so long as they are voting with bullets than ballots we have no other option but to get things to settle down.

We have already "lost" - the situation in Iraq is hopeless......all else from here on is an exit strategy. What the US will do when a democrat (yes, sad to say it's inevitable) get elected president in 2 years is wind down our effort - declare victory and leave. Iraq will devolve into civil war and what will eventually emerge will two militant theocracies opposed to anything western and American. One Sunni-dominated the other Shia-dominated. A million people will die in the ethnic cleansing. The Kurds will declare the formation of a separate country called Kurdistan and Turkey will start a small scale war with them. Iran will try to wield influence, but the only thing an Iraqi hates more than an American is a Persian. There will be no long term consequences to the US - we will lay low for awhile then start wars etc. elsewhere. Korea is next, not Iran....Iran will implode within 5 years all by itself

Iraq has lived in political upheaval and turmoil for the past 70 years. They had King Faissel II, Saddam's uncle was a disciple of Adolf Hitler and was executed after the war, the Imam in Iraq also supported Hitler. They've had rebellions after rebellions. They will survive as a country, but planting the seeds for a democracy will take time since they haven't had one in so long. It's not the US's war to lose, it's Iraq's. They have to stop the sectarian violence, end the civil war, stabilize their government, build an army and police force and protect their own borders. The only perceived threats will come if Iran moves troops into Iraq because Saudi Arabia will also move in troops to prevent a bloodbath to Sunnis to fill the void of US troops.

People , who love this country, love the others, will know what happen if we just run away! 1) another Rwanda 2) Iran take over and install a puppet government 3) Aggressive Muslim will take over the government ...... Anyways, thousands people will be killed, thousand terrorists will be born, a new threat to the safety of US and all the world! Finally, we will step one more step closer to WW III

Thanks to Mr Bush and Mr Cheney ,the image of US soldiers in the world became down and down.We not going to achieve any goal in Iraq because we don't have the right people in the right place.we lost the war in Iraq and we loosing more soldiers every single day to keep our white house Texas rangers happy. If we leave from Iraq without achieving any goal now better than leaving tomorrow without achieving any goal.

Iraq was founded by Nimrod. Nimrod was born after the Great Flood in the year 2015 and he hated God and become a dictator. The people of Iraq are the descendant of Nimrod so now you know why the people of Iraq hates God and kill the soldiers and charities organisation that are trying to help them. In fact believe it or not God cursed the land of Iraq for eternity because time after time in the past the people of Iraq declare war to Israel and destroyed the Temple of God in Jerusalem build by King Solomon. In fact Iraq arrested for 70 years the friend of God call Daniel, the man who's name appears on the Bible. Iraq will never change so America should wipe out the country of Iraq from the map with 10 Nuclear Bombs. The people of Iraq have the genes of Nimrod so they will always do bad things.
