The difference is their spelling and pronunciation. Joke!!!Timber is a growing tree or wooded land while Wood is a substance of trees or a fuel/building material. Some things that are so related are sometimes thought to be one.

WOOD
Wood is a solid material derived from woody plants, notably trees but also shrubs. Wood from the latter is only produced in small sizes, reducing the diversity of uses.
In its most common meaning, "wood" is the secondary xylem of a woody plant, but this is an approximation only: in the wider sense, wood may refer to other materials and tissues with comparable properties. Wood is a heterogeneous, hygroscopic, cellular and anisotropic material. Wood is composed of fibers of cellulose (40%–50%) and hemicellulose (15%–25%) held together by lignin (15%–30%)
TIMBER
Lumber or Timber is a term used to describe wood, either standing or that has been processed for use—from the time trees are felled, to its end product as a material suitable for industrial use—as structural material for construction or wood pulp for paper production. In the U.K. and Australia, "timber" is a term also used for sawn wood products (that is, boards), whereas generally in the United States and Canada, the product of timber cut into boards is referred to as lumber. In the United States and Canada sawn wood products of five inches diameter or greater (4½″ nominal size) are sometimes called "timbers".

Wood cut from Victorian Mountain AshLumber is supplied either rough or finished. Rough lumber is the raw material for furniture making and other items requiring additional cutting and shaping. It is available in many species, usually hardwoods. Finished lumber is supplied in standard sizes, mostly for the construction industry, and is primarily one of a few coniferous (needle-bearing) species such as pine, cedar, hemlock, fir or spruce.

Timber:
Trees or wooded land considered as a source of wood.
Wood used as a building material; lumber.
Wood:
The secondary xylem of trees and shrubs, lying beneath the bark and consisting largely of cellulose and lignin.
This tissue, often cut and dried especially for use as building material and fuel.
So you see, a stand of trees still standing intended to be used as lumber can be called timber and it is still in tree form; whereas wood is not in tree form it is in board or plank form, based on that information.
