Herding group. I Love German Shepherds. They are smart, loyal, loving, playful, and gentle. My German Shepherd could be barking and guarding the house (she would never hurt a fly), acting all tough one minute, then the next minute in the house helping me take care of abandoned kittens. They are great dogs.

We had quite a few breeds that we kept uptill the inevidable came. I honestly can save the truly best dog we had (and still do, although she is very old now) is our german shepard. We did a very thourough backround check on which breeder we were going to choose from, met with the pups parents to check their temperment and the vet to check the past history of the shepards hips etc. Tiko was the easiest to train, house-train and obedient train and so intelligent ! She was brought up in a very social environment and taught early not to jump on people, or beg at the table etc. She is so gentle, she has accepted every new pet member brought into the household after her (cat's and dog's) and doesn't eat their food ! She is the greatest. It is very sad right now as she is up there in years and the pain of knowing whe will not have her alot longer is so bad I almost wish I never got her . I know our hearts will be broken for a long, long time when she leaves this world.
So loved , that is why she is my screen name.

Poodles are the best! They are incredibly smart and unlike most working dogs they will attach to a whole family, not a single master. They used to be in the sporting group, but since they aren't used for hunting much anymore they have been moved to the nonsporting group. We have minis, which are a bit small to bring back a full sized duck, but they are great for smaller fowl. If you do any water fowl hunting then you probably already know a poodle is the best dog to have with you. If you just want a family pet, they are smart, easy to train, and incredibly loving with all family members.

I love the working group.

I'm not sure why, to tell you the truth. We've had working dogs since I was two, and the class has just really grown on me. Helps that the group has some of the biggest breeds, too. I've just found I don't like the two other groups from which we've had dogs (misc. and hunting) as well.

The Toy Group. My favorite dog is the Chihuahua. I absolutely love them. I used to dislike them till I got my first one, and relized they are great dogs with proper training and socialization.

we have had Weimaraners for many years. they are in the sporting group. great with kids. and, a little scary to strangers. my favorite, Konrad, wouldn't let anyone come into the house until we told him it was okay. his favorite trick? he would pick up a stick, hop onto the hood of the pickup, and shake it at anyone who tried to come into the yard!

we never trained him to hunt, because i think he would have been a natural. every fall he would sniff the air relentlessly. shame on us.
