Already done, early last century! They called them "Zeppelins". Unfortunately, the use of hydrogen in such large quantities was proven to be highly explosive...

Seriously though - I suspect the use of hydrogen in some sort of jet engine (as opposed to flotation of an airship) would be very dangerous. You would also need to use liquid hydrogen in order to carry sufficient quantities of the stuff?

You also need to use energy in order to produce the hydrogen in the first place. For the forseeable, this will almost certainly involve using polluting fossil or nuclear fuel-based technologies, even if the end use of the hydrogen itself is non-polluting.

There shouldn't be a problem with running aircraft engines on hydrogen, but there are problems with carrying a large quantity of hydrogen. The gas is light, but the tanks to hold it are heavy.
Hydrogen also has a bad habit of exploding whenever there is a spark.

I like the idea of alternative energy souces for vehicles and such but i still think electric is much safer than hydrogen. it is too vulnerable to explosion when stored.

there have been bikes powered by combi. maybe that is the way forward for cars too!!

the technology is there for a super battery and a petrol kick in when u need that extra boost??

I am hoping that some genius will come up with a honeycomb alloy for cars to enable this or such like??
