Did Adam and Eve have bellybuttons?

For those who believe the Bible to be historically accurate, this is not a trivial question. If Adam and Eve did not have navels, then they were not perfect human beings. On the other hand, if they had navels, then the navels would imply a birth they never experienced.

Bruce Felton and Mark Fowler are the authors of The Best, Worst, and Most Unusual (Galahad Books, 1994). In this entertaining reference work, they devote several paragraphs (pp. 146-147) to what they call "the wont theological dispute." They take this to be the acrimonious debate, which has been going on ever since the book of Genesis was written, over whether the first human pair had what Sir Thomas Browne, in 1646, called "that tortuosity or complicated nodosity we usually call the Navel."

Browns opinion was that Adam and Eve, because they had no parents, must have had perfectly smooth abdomens. In 1752, according to Felton and Fowler, the definitive treatise on the topic was published in Germany. It was tided Untersuchung der Frage: Ob unsere ersten Uraltern, Adam und Eve, einen Nabel gehabt (Examination on the Question: Whether Our First Ancestors, Adam and Eve, Possessed a Navel). After discussing all sides of this difficult question, the author, Dr. Christian Tobias Ephraim Reinhard, finally concluded that the famous pair were navel-less.

Well I'm not even going to weigh in on the 'did they or did they not exist' debate. I believe in God and I believe in creation, so I will answer it from my belief. How do we know that they had belly buttons? Has anybody ever seen a picture of them? But who knows? Maybe they did have belly buttons. God could have made belly buttons for them, knowing that their children would have them, and so that they would not look different to their children. But really does it matter? A belly button does not make a human, human.

Taking your supposion, how do you know they did? According to the 'stories' Eve was created from Adams rib, so therefore wouldn't have had one. People are born without belly buttons from time to time. Usually because of some serious medical reason, but it is possible.

Adam and Eve story is mythical in nature and it is not meant to be taken literally unfortunately most people do.

The book of Genesis (bereshit in hebrew) has many levels of depth and if you take it literally then you'll be lost or at least believe something meant to be mythical (don't get me wrong, it may be mythical but still portrays some universal truths or principles of creation).

I mean who is that person foolish enough to believe that the snake eats dust? or it had legs and walked right before it was cursed to go on its belly?

there never were two individuals called Adam and Eve the way put in the bible therefore your question wouldn't apply.

There is a small allegorical story which is similar to Adam and Eve, in the Hindu Vedas. The words sound similar to 'Atman' and 'jeeva' the familiar terms used in Hindu theology to refer to the soul and life. By a quirk of fate, this allegory has found its way into the Bible, on which the whole theology of Christianity is built up. You have taken this story for its face value. You have led to believe that human history as old as 10,000/- years, whereas it is actually 2 millions years old. The Hindus believe that mankind was in existence about two million years old. I have intention to find fault with the christian theology. Had the story of Adam and Eve been seen in the proper perspective, the conflict between Darwin's theory of evolution and the theological view of creation, based on Adam and Eve would have been avoided.

Where did you hear they did? No one knows the answer to that. They very well may not have had one, for they had no need. Now to show you how dogmatic and just like extreme fundamentalists, atheists are, look at the Atheist Revolutions answer. He states that since Michelangelo believed in a God he was not very intelligent. Meaning that you cannot believe in a God and be intelligent. Yet most scientists will tell you Michelangelo was years ahead of his time and a genius

IF they did exist they would not have belly buttons. Considering god forgot that rabbits don't chew the cud when he inspired the writers of the bible, I wouldn't be surprised that he would also forget to make fake belly buttons. Also, Adam and eve would not question this because god messed up their minds by saying not to eat the fruit while forgetting to teach them that it is wrong to disobey. Anyway that is all fantasy because I don't believe Genesis to be true.

In the Jewish tradition "Adam" was the first man known to bring up a connection with a god...being "enlighted" that god and man could have a relationship. Although it is believed to have originated because of one specific man's idea (the Jewish version of the story), the story is mythological in nature and not literal. It was to depict the birth of spirituality for the Jewish people.

That fact doesn't have to change your entire belief system if you're of Christian faith. But many Christians are so afraid of consequences that they refuse to hear the truth. In that, Christianity is not alone on that point.

We know they had belly buttons because the one that created them had a belly button. Jesus created Adam and Eve and the Bible says so; Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ.
Colossians 1:16
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
