I need to have one of my wisdom teeth out , the upper right one, right beside the cheek bone. It has grown in such a way it is pressing on the bone and is so far behind it you cant see it. My dentist says he can do it there in the surgery for about three hundred euro, but I will be sedated and awake. The other option is going private which will be alot more expensive but i will be completly unconsious. I would much prefer this option regardless of the exprense although I am thinking of going up to the North (I live in the Republic of Ireland) because Ive heard it is much cheaper.
Has anyone had an upper wisdom tooth out whilst AWAKE? What would you recommend, go ahead with it awake or be knocked out?

I had all four taken out at once: upper and lower on both sides. The lowers were impacted, so the dentist had to use a scalpel to open the gums. I had the entire procedure done under local anesthesia without sedation. It didn't hurt at all during the actual procedure. Because there was no drilling, I thought it less unpleasant than getting a filling put in. I felt fine when I went home. About four hours later, the local anesthesia wore off, and it hurt like hell.

If your dentist will give you sedation, you'll probably be OK.

I had 4 out last week. I went with the expense and went completely under. Woke up relaxed, no pain, and none of the anxiety of watching the tools as they tear your mouth up with, the blood, mouth clamped open etc which I've heard can be a problem.

I was on painkillers for 4 days after it, and felt almost back to normal when i finished them. The jaws are a little sore from being held open for an hour or so, and the teeth are a little sensitive - try some Sensodyne for that.

I'm back to eating solid food already. I thought it was going to be a lot more painful but it's been quite easy. Either way - keep up the ice for the first few days and try and eat lots of fibre - the painkillers will block you up.

Definitely get knocked out.

Hope this helps.

I am the most scared person of the dentist you can ever meet, and i had mine out yesterday with just an injection, no sedation and completely awake, and i would do it again, you don't feel anything promise you'll be fine

I had mine done under local. It didn't hurt during but after...WOW. You will have the pain after regardless of how they take them out so why waste the money. Mine only hurt for a day or two.
