I know that it is a brotherhood associated with boy scouts, but what else?

The Order of the Arrow is Scouting's National Honor Society. The purpose of the organization is fourfold:

1: To recognize those Scout campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives,

2: To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit,

3: To promote Scout camping, and

4: To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others.

You can only become a member of the Order by being selected by the other scouts in your troop or crew as being worthy by secret ballot. Adult leaders are similarly elected; no one gets in because of familial relations or donating money or anything like that.

You can read a quick overview about it on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Arrow or visit the official national page http://www.main.oa-bsa.org/, but I'd suggest to you that the best way to learn more is to actually speak to someone who is in it.

hmm... 'bout all i know of it.. is the phallyic symbol logo..
the boy scouts were created by the masons (along with alllllll kinda other things). mormons, jehovas witnesses, theosophy, christain science, scientology.. kkk, even what we call 'wicca' for true scholars.
the 'order of the arrow' seems to just be the scouts honor society kinda thing.. and while there seems to be some interest in the ordeal.. i'd imagine it's not as interesting symbolically as some of the directly mason junk.
