If you're freezing in the midwest right now, you don't want to know. Assuming you mean Los Angeles and not Louisiana.

Hi there,
I travelled to the states in late December, January last year in 2006.
The temperture in LA ranged between 10 and 20 degrees. Colder of a night time. The days we were there the weather was perfect, no wind and sunny. We wore jeans with a thin long sleeve top and always had a jacket. We didn't need gloves, hats or scarfs.
That same time we stayed in New York too. The weather on that side is much much colder.

It's usually in the upper 60's to mid 70's. Inland locations tend to be warmer than the coast too. At night it's usually in the mid 40's inland to the low 50's near the coast. But during winter we frequently get Santa Ana Winds, like the past few days, which can push the temperature up into the 80's. You won't need a parka or big jacket. But jeans, a light jacket or sweatshirt would keep you plenty warm when its the coldest at night. Shorts and t-shirts are also a good idea to bring b/c it can be pretty warm during the day but then cool off at night.

Generally its in the upper 60s or lower 70s. I drops to the 50s at night. And that is COLD for we wussy Californians!! :) Lately, it's been warmer and drier than it usually is at this time of the year.

Judging by this year, anywhere between the mid 20's to the low 90's. Today it's near the high end.
