Well in the Japanese dictionary San meens 5 things: three, sun acid, cut down and the last one, when you put the word San in front of a name it translate as mister,(Mr.). Most comun are the male names( Ex: Son Goku. Son Gohan, etc), for the girl they use the word Chan but the spelling is backwards (ex: Anzu Chan, Kikio Chan, etc). For the rang and status they use the word sama which translate lord (Ex: Sesshoumaru-sama, Kami-sama, etc)

Here San is her name. It is different from another San, which is used to refer to a person respectfully. The name is only an imaginary name and not real Japanese name. It has no specific meaning, but gives some mystical tone.

It's short for "sama", which is attached to names when addressing people. Originally it meant "direction". The idea is that you are speaking "in the direction of" the person, without presuming to demand his attention.

(It should not be confused with the "san" in Fuji San, which just means "mountain")
