Actually that was the traditional way of doing it and some people still prefer that way. But this is the 21st Century and it could be either or. I've even heard that guys think it's sexy when a girl asks them out first.

Because boys think of girls more than girls do for boys.maybe girls like boys who are assertive and daring.looking back at history we find that man used to have a more dominant role in relationship,but fortunately now there is more equality and I know many girls who make the first step.

because if you think of it basically there are two genders, male and female, and male naturally is a bit more aggressive gender, not that I am demeaning females but male are the hunters and the gender that is assumed to be the food hunters for the family so this by itself make them aggressive and that is why the male gender is to ask the female gender out first, or make the first move. it is only appropriate.

Because that shows how manly the boy is. Anyway, i think that's partly because of the culture or something like that.
