Pain is really relative. Everyone has a different tolerancy to pain. I'm not going to kid you, though - it does hurt. Just not that much. Some have compared it to a "hot scratching feeling". But, people would not be returning again and again for tattoo after tattoo if it hurt that bad! Most of us are not into pain, but the beauty of the tattoo and the pride associated with wearing it far outweighs a little pin-stick here and there.

Like everyone else says...it depends on several factors, the 2 most important ones being:
Location of tattoo and your pain tolerance level.
No one can answer this question for you, except you. I've got 5...shoulders (bony part) was least painful but tended to bleed more, waistband (from center of lower back, across hips and around to front ...won't give more detail than that) was very bony in some places and fleshy in others...fleshy part hurt ALOT more...backpiece I'm working on now (2 sittings done already and still not finished)...the spine is the LEAST painful ...the further away from the spine and toward the ribs or on sensitive muscles tend to hurt more
but again...that's for me...I have high pain tolerance and all of my tattoos hold very special meaning to me, so the desire for the ink outweighs the temporary pain.
Actually, it's more bothersome while it's healing...nothing like an itchy sunburn you just can't scratch! :/

Yes, although not as much as you would think. I agree with the other posts on here - it does hurt but it is worth it if you love the design your getting done. Fleshy parts of the body are the least painful, and bony parts can be awful! If you are a clean person your tattoo wont get infected. I would say, rather than worry about the pain, concern yourself with finding a GOOD reputable and clean artist, and making sure the design is exactly what you want, and will want for ever! Good luck!

I think it's more annoying than painful but I have seen people faint too. I've had 5 and I am usually giggling after a few minutes because it kind of tickles. I think that is from the endorphins that are being released in the body.
I say go for it, mind over matter. I think the result will be worth a bit of discomfort.

everybody is going to say something different. in my experience they do. all of my tattoos have hurt at least a little bit and some of them much much more. it all depends on your own pain tolerance and where on your body you are getting the tattoo.

yes but at the same time it is very addictive i don't know very many people who stop at just one tattoo. a 1/2 inch line would take over 100 needle pokes so just think about how many pokes it would take to complete a tat. i have one on my back that is 3inches by 4 inches and is in full color it took more then 8 hours of being poked with a needle.

mine weren't too painful. It hurts as it's being done but as soon as the needle is away from your skin, it doesn't hurt anymore. The worst part for me was when it began to itch as it peeled. I tell my friends that it pretty much feels like a needle being drug along your skin...plain and simple. But the end result makes it all worth it!!!

Generally yes. But it really depends on the placement of it, the size of it, your pain tolerance, and any disractions that you may have. It helps to get your mind of the pain if you have someone to talk to or something when you are getting it done.
