my neighbour is a single mum with 2 kids, 15 and 8, she doens't work at all, living off the government. I don't care its her choice, but my questions is why should my tax money support her kids ? she should pay her own way if she wanted 2 kids, my tax money should be used on my kids one day in school or kindagarden, what do you think?

Well, you have a oint...but your taxes don't go to her they go to everyone including her. What i mean is that the money we all pay every year in taxes go to roads, paying off our national debt (probably the majority goes here) and to who really need help and to those may not need as much help. Anyhow, its part of the system we live in, most people work hard and support society in a helpful and constructive manner and some people (I have no idea what reasons she has for not working or whatever and can't assume that she is bad) do not want to work or are quite lazy or think that they are "owed' their due. Anyhow, this woman's kids are not at fault, they did not do anything, so if anything be angry with her or the man who got her pregnant and not her children.

I think what you are saying is that welfare is wrong and to a point you are right. If this woman is healthy she should be like the rest of us working and working hard to make ends meet. Her children are not babies so I see no reason for her to be on welfare. However, do we know if she is healthy and able to work? If she cannot work that is different, than we must support her and the children. I like welfare plans that include education for the mother and help with child care when the mom first goes to work. This plan works by not just taking the money away from the family until the mom is able to handle the finances. It should teach not only a job skill but about budgeting and handling money. Best yet it takes mom off the welfare rolls and puts her on the tax rolls.

I think that someday when you may be down and out you might appeciate the wellfare system a little. but your right in some scence. I think that they should use that money to get these motheres an education so they can get good jobs. also for childcare so the moms can work. its like the old saying goes. its better to teach a hungry man how to fish then to just give him a fish. Im not against wellfare, I just think its misused.
I work hard but a year ago my husband lost his job and was out of work for 4 months, we fell way behind. we almost lost our appartment. thank god that we were able to get emergency assistence or who knows where we would be. And we work hard too. (thats kind of what i ment by my first statement.

The way your tax money is spent is never transparent. No govt. in the world is transparent. Your neighbour is not supported by your money. She is paid by the govt. for taxes already paid by her when she was working, and when her parents paid the taxes, all this money the govt. is taking, and having a duty towards its citizens. She is a citizen, and as per the rules, she is perfectly entitled to govt. support. Today u are paying taxes, maybe tommorow if u are incapacitated or unemployed, the govt. will support you, even thought u don't pay taxes. Should we grudge u this support extended by the govt.

first I'm guessing you aren't paying huge amounts of tax dollars...and secondly I'd say not much if any is going directly to her..Paying taxes are a privilege...they pay for the nation's defense, on the interest on the public debt, to build highways, improve parks, maintain the Justice system and prisons...

all of which in some way benefits everyone, yourself included...I am proud to have been an American tax-payer for over 40 years!!
I intend to continue paying taxes for as long as I'm able
