I've been a goth since early 8o's and I am nice, I laugh and I don't watch slasher movies. I am very pale naturally and can not tan. I wear black, collect bats, love Hallowe'en and dressing up. I think, of the goths that i know, we are creative and eccentric and the music is varied as well. I prefer Industrial instead of the esoteric styles some prefer. I do like Victorian styled clothing with corsets and long flowing skirts. I also read a great deal by Poe, Wilde, historical biographies. Maybe it's all the sad stories my parents told me of them growing up during the second world war or the threat of nuclear annilation in the 80's, or the fact that I was bullied mercilesly. Who knows?
Alot of people have different styles. Some are sporty, preppy, crunchy, geeky, trashy or even hiphop , the list goes on. We're all different and perhaps growing up we were outsiders and found a group in which we could belong and feel at ease expressing ourselves. Sometimes it's just easier to show the world the sadness you feel inside instead of explaining it.

Naomi...what do you mean by goth...if it's dark hair and nails I'm into that but I also like pink and french manicures too.
If you mean like combat boots and black capes I think it's just what they have choosen to levetate to like anyone else choosing to levetate to stilettos and cleavege bearing tops or whatever...it's a personal style choice.
As far as some thinking it's so unconforming, I don't know about that because in a way it is conforming, conforming with that particular style group...think about it all those in that category look alike so I feel like they are conforming...they're conforming in their style choice...if that makes sense to you.

But overall to each his own...Monday I might wear a polo with the collar popped and Jackie O glasses with my hair out and curly...Wednesday I might wear a white tee with a trucker hat and blue jeans and sneakers with my hair in a ponytail...and Friday I'll wear a pink fitted thermal with jeans that have ripps in them and some Sugar boots and put my hair in a bun with the trendy pump in the front and some gold hoops...Come Saturday I'll wear my skull track jacket and black cone earrings with jeans and Timberlans with my hair in a french braid accented by a headband...you know - to each his own.

You may think they look horrid but they may also be the one to genuinely care for you whereas your girls that look just like you and smile to your face and pretend to be sad because you are may truely not give 2 crapps about you...something to ponder Naomi.
Venture outside your comfort zone :-)
