Help them help themselves. Heifer Project International is one of the best programs I've seen with regards to helping poor people drag themselves out of grinding poverty and make a better life for themselves. You can hand people food every day and they'll still be hungry the next day, or you can help them provide for themselves, and they'll teach others how to do the same.
I also think that they should start turning empty lots in urban areas into gardens, let the people who live around the area learn to grow a lot of their own food. It's so easy, it's a crime that we'd rather let those lots be trash filled dumping grounds rather than a means to help poor people help themselves. Programs like Food From The Hood, among many others, is pure genius.
Lastly, make birth control education widely available, and condoms available at no cost.

Its a difficult question but needs to be answered by everyone.I think that a temporary solution is insufficient,that is, giving poor leftovers,providing them food free of cost etc. What is actually necessary is to uproot the problem completely.As many more people, there are as many more mouths to feed. People should be made aware of this fact so that they realise that more people not only means more hands to earn but also more mouths to feed.Therefore people should be given education of family planning methods,birth control means and advantages of a small family.i dont say that this will solve the problem and eradicate the hunger of poor but this will reduce the number of poors whose hunger needs to be fullfilled and whose thirst needs to be quenched.

By education, free food for poor during education and employment based educaton can eradicate poverty and thereby eradicate the hunger of the poor. Relaxation in standards, free gifts, alms cannot eradicate hunger.

My friend it is a collective effort and it is by setting examples like mother Theresa that you start the collective effort . Like minded people will have to join together and encourage other people and at the same time set an example for the future generation.

Control the population of the poor. Regions with the least available food is multiplying faster than those who has abundent food.

Give some food out of whatever you eat everyday to someone hungry. You may not be able to take care of all the hunger in thie World.

eradicate the poor.
i know you'll all think i'm a jerk. i just wanted you all to read carefully.
i'm just pointing out the futility of all of this stuff. if you wanna go help the needy. find 1 needy person and help them. don't ask for recognition, don't rally people to your cause. just help one at a time. if people do this, it is the only way to help.

give fish to a cat and it is satisfied for the day ,teach it to fish it is satisfied for life.same goes for humans too. provide the poor with education/ jobs so that they earn their bread for life.

providing food and other thing makes a person lazy.
put them in to some work then pay them.its worth.
