Color is such an individual choice that it is hard to tell you what to do...without knowing you.

My advice, is to go with the color scheme of the rest of the house, or at least the rooms next to the lounge.

If you don't want to do that...then check for any object with multiple colors in it that you like. You don't have to use the object, you don't have to like it's pattern etc, just that the colors are pleasant to you.

The object could be a fabric, a piece of wallpaper, a piece of art, a decorative plate, a logo. Anything that is pleasing to you, that you could live with in the room. It also helps if you have a balance in the color scheme of neutrals and other colors. You may be locked into a color scheme if you have a colored piece in your home that you cannot replace or recover right now. In such case, use that as your object to work around.

Neutrals for the record, are not just black and white, brown, and gray anymore. There are several muted colors that serve as neutrals. They go with everything and bring out all the other colors.

Then pick the colors that you want to work with, between 2 and 5. Helps if you find those colors in paint chips, then you don't have to lug the object around anymore, just use your paint chips to coordinate everything.

Then, thinking of cost, choose most expensive to least expensive pieces, working them into the color scheme.

For expensive pieces, or long term use items, make sure they are versatile and don't lock you into this color scheme forever. Best to choose long term high dollar items in a neutral. Particularly if you are using a piece of fabric as your color scheming item, don't have your sofa covered in it...then you have to use those colors for the life of the sofa.

Where you go crazy with colors and patterns and prints, is with accents, and wall paints. Because these are all easier and cheaper to change.

So for an example using colors you seem to like: if your color scheme is tan, burgundy and hunter green, you might...

Paint the walls burgundy. Maybe an accent wall that is green, or use green on woodwork, or in niches, etc.

Tan couch and major chairs.

Tan curtains with a burgundy and green patterned valence to accent them.

Wood chairs with upholstered seat can be a crazy pattern that matches your colors. because in the long run, all you have to replace if you change decor is the seat fabric.

Throw pillows and blankets in any combination, prints, etc. You can go nuts...mix textures, color combos, patterns. Tie them together with the color scheme itself.

Wall art, sculpture, etc kind of defies color schemes because it is said that if you truly love a piece of art, it will go in your room. Having said that, you can either USE an existing piece to give you your color scheme, or you can look for art that picks up on your colors. If you are spending a lot, pick stuff that you LOVE a lot. If you aren't spending a lot, then you can try to pick up all your colors in that piece.

Don't forget other things that you can do that will help the room be tied together in terms of visuals. Any of these will help you be more cohesive, but you can mix up others to be eclectic.

Period of furniture design. Mission, Victorian, Modern, etc.
Tree and tone of stain for wood pieces.
Paint vs. stain for wood pieces.
Metal finishes.
Ethnic influence.

You might choose crystal or (at least clear glass) when it comes to the bar area of your lounge, these are long term purchases that will go with any color scheme. And you can use mirrors too. Last, touches of cream and black will look really nice in there.

I hope this was helpful. Email me if you have any questions about this.

You didn't mention what color the couch is so I'll have to work with what you've given me... So you're looking for modern but warm... Here are some colors you can consider: Hot or Bubblegum pink Burnt orange Granny smith apple green Fresh raspberry red Deep olive green Carribean ocean turquoise Dark exspresso coffee brown It all depends on what mood you want the room to portray. Whatever color you decide to go with, keep in mind that you'll need to balance it since you are only planning on painting one wall. To balance the color in the room, add at least one more decorative object of the same color. Say you choose carribean turquoise blue... add a vase in amongst the black and white ones or cushions on the couch, or curtains, or a throw rug... it doesn't really matter what the item is, as long as it's the same color it will balance it all. Sounds like a nice room... Oh... add a few silver (brushed, not chrome) accents. That will lighten it all up too. Enjoy your space!

Burgundy is a good color to decorate with . It goes well with golden. Lime curtains will give a fresh summer/spring feel and golden will add a royal glamor. Perhaps now you can chose better depending on what mood you wish to set.

your walls are the beginning. there should be one accent wall usually the one you see as you walk in. 2 to 3 shades darker than the other 3. your accents would be the maroon pillows (patterns also) on your green sofa . candles etc. you need to start with a basic color first. go to home depot or Lowe's, they have all the paint stuff and coordinating ideas you need. be brave. go for it !!!
