Mental preparation, hmmm, not required but if it helps you, go right ahead. As far as any other preparation: take a pain reliever like Tylenol or something before you go, it'll help with any pain and redness of the site. I don't know where you will go to get your tattoo but my tattoo artist is the owner of the shop and being drunk or high before you get a tattoo or piercing is NOT allowed, they will not work on you. Before they start on you, make sure you are satisfied with how the tattoo will look, where it will be placed and be clear on how you want it angled or anything like that. Before you leave the tattoo parlor, be sure you understand how to take care of the tattoo because it is eternal art and you want it to look its best.

Yes! Be mentaly prepared!!! It is going to hurt! Depending on where you get it and your pain tolerance it could be any where from like a bee sting to the worst pain you have ever felt.Be prepared but not scared.

Do not get drunk first. This will make the bleeding worse and will make it easier for you to go into shock. Just be calm and know what you want. If you want it bad enough this will be a cake walk.

i guess not.
however, i went on a friday with a huge bunch of my friends, i had the tattoo designed for me and everything and it turned out that the artist couldn't do it as small as i hoped. so i panicked, although i loved the design. i had all of my friends in my face going "get it done get it done get it done" and the artist in my face hurrying me along, and the second i walked into the backroom to get it done, i felt faint and basically completely chickened out!
went back the next day on my own, with my head fully cleared, and got it done no problems at all. i was just really relaxed, and the pain wasn't as harsh as i thought it'd be. :] good luck

No, But just be sure of the tattoo you have chosen, and make sure you are getting it from an accredited artist. It's there forever.

No. The procedure isn't that complicated. I don't know why you need mental preparation for that.

Do not let your adrenaline get to high, you are going to think it hurts more then it does, just go in, eat a good meal a couple hours before hand and just get it done.

No, not really. Just be sure that you really want it, and know exactly what you want.
Also make sure you know who the artist is and he/she has a good reputation.
