Neither. People kill people. People will always have an excuse to--whether racial, religious, economic, etc.--to fight and separate themselves into communities.

People use many excuses and many different implements to murder other humans. Religion, money, power, jealousy, lust, etc..etc..
It is the person that is the cause and the reason, blaming any other instrument or belief is an excuse not to face the fact that it is a human at fault. Cars kill more people than both, do we ban them too?

Guns don't kill people. People kill other people. People sue gun companies, which doesn't make any sense to me. I have yet to see somebody sue companies that make knives when somebody uses a knife to kill somebody or people that make baseball bats or any other object that's used to kill.
One of the Ten Commandments, is Thou shalt not kill. If you follow what Jesus Christ said, then nobody would kill anybody.
