Say you really wanted to marry someone. I believe the legal age in the UK is 16 but would you tie the knot this young? I know most people on this site are over 16 but if you could go back in time to this age, would you do it?

Just curious...

Marriage or any committement to another person should only be done when we are ready and sure, especially if there are going to be children involved as well. I got married at 18 and it lasted 7 yrs - hindsight is a wonderful thing and although it wasnt all bad, I wish I had had fun instead of dealing with a relationship that was not quite right! I married again at 40 and am happy with 2 kids and a lovely partner. I never really felt the need to get married but we did it because we wanted to have a celebration and it was a great day with friends and a party.

Do it when you are ready, enjoy life and have fun whilst you are young and free. It is a shame to loose all that freedom and carefree feelings by commiting to a relationship when we are so young and really do not know much about life yet.

I think it depends on the couple, we are the youngest married couple we know (I was 23 when we got married, now 24 and he was and still is 25 at the moment). Just because I'm married doesn't mean that I can't have a career or that I'm going to have children in the near future, we have made decisions about that sort of thing which are right for us. However I wouldn't marry at 16, that's ridiculous!

Minimum legal age is 16, but as people are still learning about themselves and their own values and priorities, a good in general to consider getting married is 25. I have never, ever, personally known any couples under that age that had a successful marriage longer than 7 years when marrying as such a young age.

No Way!!
You're still technically a child at this age and I don't think you're mature enough for married life. This is why you need you're parent's permission to get married at 16. Marriages don't tend to last long if you marry so young, you should wait until you've matured and know more about the world and have had experiences.

I got married at age 19....HUGE mistake....way too young.

The second time I was 25, also a huge mistake, but not so much due to age.

I am getting married for a 3rd and final time now that I am 30, well I will be 31 by then, but that is a much more sensible age.

I'm 25 and even if I could go back in time I would still not get married until now.
I think you change so much in your early twenties that you need that time to find out who you are before you start having to become half of someone else!

I wanted to get married at 16 and I'm so glad my parents put their foot down because the guy turned out to be a lunatic. I think the ideal time to get married is probably between 27 - 30.

Any age above 18 is OK. I know our parents times people used to get married around 16 yrs of age.
