The first is better, but it's still not clear enough. There doesn't seem to be any plural noun for "they" to refer to (unless this is clear from previous sentences), and you seem to be equating "evaluation" with "by checking" with is grammatically awkward. The quickest fix there would just be to eliminate "by".

The first one is more clear. The second one leaves an ambiguity as to the conformity of what object/item you're talking about.
