He didn't check target... and here's what he had to say as soon as he DID see it was a british unit.

'God dammit!, we're going to jail!'

Another cover up by the Americans... and i thought the Nazi's were the masters of propaganda.

The US say they cannot release anything because it could jeopardise their national security. There were two pilots involved in this attack who were described by the Americans as 'rogue pilots'. What does that mean exactly? Were they actually on an official mission? Were they flying without permission?

The British troops who were attacked by the two war planes had laid out an 'identity' on the ground where they had pulled up. These usually consist of brightly coloured sheets of cloth pegged on the ground or sometimes laid across the tops of vehicles. There is no mistaking them, they're high visibility - yellow, orange, those sorts of colours which can easily be seen from a great hight.

What I think we may have here are two US war planes called down to attack a target ahead of the Brits. They may have been called down by the Brits themselves but when the planes arrived over what they thought was the target, they attacked it.

There's no doubting the attack was a mistake, a serious one and there does seem to be some sort of cover up going on. We must accept that in war, mistakes will be made. End of story. Let's just go forward together and get on with it.

Many British infantrymen say their best concern is American "friendly" fire. the united kingdom shouldn't hook up with any extent further American wars with out finished UN backing. by the way many precise point political commentators say the Iraq conflict grew to become right into a conflict for the risk-free practices of Israel see the links under.

No of course they shouldn't it was a genuine mistake if you listen to the words of the tape from the aircraft they were horrified at what they had done (and I say that as an Englishman).
Saying that though the response from the USA and indeed our own Ministry of Defence in hiding the tape and saying it didn't exist is a disgrace and brings shame on both Governments. It also shows a comtemptable attitude towards British soldiers and their families.

I hope you read a different article about this than I did, because I don't see where there was a cover up by the US. Maybe the British did during the inquiry. By the way, if the media covered all wars in the past like the they cover them now, we would all look like saints right now. Also, if you think that the US are masters of propaganda, go live in the Middle East where the Governments and Religious leaders control everything in the media. Get a clue.

It's not a good thing to happen, but in war with bombs and bullets flying about everywhere what else can we expect. What's more worrying is the cover up and the American bullying tactics on our justice system. They want to jail the whistle blower.

i dont believe the pilots are to blame,if the vehicles had proper electronic recognition systems installed this would not have happened,as for the laying down of brightly coloured sheets for recognition what is to stop the enemy from doing this, we have allready seen iraqi insurgents dressed in american uniforms using american weapons and driving american miitary vehicles attacking american troops on the ground,if you want someone to blame then blame the british government for consistently reducing spending on the MOD, as for jailing the pilots i think they will have suffered enough, they will have to live with this for the rest of their lives,so lets move on and let them do their jobs.

NO!

We should investigate why UK troops did not have a modern Friend or Foe identification system.

New Labour have sent our troops to Iraq for no good reason and without modern equipment. This was an accident just waiting to happen. Our civil servants are to blame in that troops were killed in the first Gulf war for exactly the same reason.

Our troops use orange panels and smoke signals for ID!!!!

Tony Blair has now been personally responsible for 100 dead troops in Iraq. All those who voted labour at the last election have blood on their hands.

I'm quite sure he will be punished. He will most likely receive a dishonorable discharge. As for your Nazi comment, isn't that alittle over the top? Accidents happen. I don't think when the Nazis bombed England day and night for 4 years that that was an "accident". Get your priorities straight.

the Americans invented "friendly fire"
they seem to live by the attitude that if they cant kill an enemy, kill whatever is nearest to hand.
the question must be asked; who has killed most British servicemen in this "war on terrorism" the terrorists or the yanks?
lets just remember, it's not our war, we are just there to help out.
and yes, these airmen should be brought to book and convicted of homicidal negligence if nothing else. we all know war is dangerous, so is crossing the road! let's just kill the terrorists shall we. but then again, why bother, they seem to be doing a good job by themselves, when the coalition troupes finally leave Iraq there will be civil war, and another Saddam will rise to kill whoever is left!
the Bible intimates that the Chinese will destroy the world, it appears that the taliban is going to beat them to it... and in the name of God,
WHAT GOD HAS CREATED, ONLY GOD HAS THE RIGHT TO TAKE AWAY. no mortal man has the right to decide who lives and who dies. no killer goes to heaven, hell awaits all terrorists.
I notice all the American answers talk about the "fog of war" and "it happened in a split second" are you only getting what your government want you to see? the planes flew over the convoy at least FOUR TIMES!!! how much fog was there? most likely only the fog caused by their gung ho attitude.

This was no "fog of war" moment, they clearly saw, on 4 occasions before POPOV opened fire (twice!!), the orange cover that specified these vehicles as being friendly!

You can see why the Yanks didn't want the video released!
Watch all the thumbs down from the Dumb4sses who know this true at heart but cannot face it! D'oh!
