It's usually not good. I made the mistake of dropping that on my girlfriend(now my wife) years ago and she freaked. All day long, she assumed the worst. Usually when someone says that, they are trying to find the courage to tell someone something that they have been hiding or holding back. It's not all bad, but the person who hears it usually has to assume that something is going to happen.

I panic and think 'Oh my God what is it this time!'. All my life people when people tell me they have something to tell me its normally bad.The worst was when I was eight and my mum told me in the same conversation that the cat had eaten my hamster and only left itsn nose then told me she was pregnant. Absolute horror when your so young! I asked my mum if I didnt like the baby could she put it back.... I got a new hamster too but only after I had kicked and screamed!

Hi erincait
I've got something to tell you .....
I would be thinkng what is that then ? same as everyone would but ...
Obviously you would normally have an idea if it was something good or bad by the way they say it to you & also by their facial expression etc.
So in general your mind would use all the audio / visual signs instantly to gather this info then your would probably react on how you interperate the news to be .. ...
Lets just hope its good news next time somebody sez that to us

I immediately panic and assume its something bad, although...............
my granny used to phone up and say something like "I've got something to tell you but I can't say over the phone" and she's not the only elderly person that does this!! I NEVER panic about that because its normally something daft that doesn't affect me. Why say it in the first place though if you're not going to talk about it on the phone?? Beats me!

Depending on who says it my reaction changes. If the love of my life said it, Id expect the worst! If my mum said it I'd think ive done something wrong. If my mate says it, im pretty calm about it, but still expect bad news.
Hope this helps

I feel anxious and wonder what terrible thing they are going to tell me. I always assume its something personal. About me. I hate it. I wish they would just say whatever they are going to say without the " I've got something to tell you" or the "Can I ask you something without you getting mad" or 'can I tell you something without you getting mad" I usually say no.

To be honest I have a little saying "is it not enough to have a secret - you have to share it also". Because 9times out of 10 that is what sure is going to follow "Ive got something to tell you".

Depends on who the person is and what we've been through
eg if it was my bf and he'd been acting a little weird I'd think that he had something to come clean about.
I usually think it's something bad!

Due to my luck in the past I would be tipping towards the negative side and expecting bad news.
Only makes it so much nicer if it turns out to be good news.
