I went to the gym tonight and felt dramatically weaker as opposed to last weak, although before I went to the gym I was fresh (meaning I didn't have any sore muscles or anything, I rested over the weekend). I forgot to bring a bottle of water and was really parched after my first exercise, pull-ups.

Does this sound like I was dehydrated, and if so could this have been the reason for my apparent inability to work out on par with my previous weeks routine?

You know, with all this water talk, everyone seems to have overlooked the need for electrolytes!
This definitely sounds like dehydration, and as a "normal everyday amount" your H2O intake should be 1/2 your body weight in pounds - in ounces of water. Then add for workouts, illness, stress, caffeine intake, or anything else that might drain your fluid level. (example: 180 lbs divide by 2 =90...normal intake=90 ounces.)
We need Magnesium in particular to use the water we take in. Calcium and Potassium are vital to muscle function.
If you fail to properly nourish your body before and after your workout you will not be functioning up to par. So... Keep the whole picture in mind! Enjoy, God Bless.
PS. Another rule of thumb, particularly important in endurance sports (like marathons), you should weigh the same after your workout as you did before you started.

This is definitely sounding like dehydration. Take it from someone who's been hospitalized multiple times simply due to severe dehydration-- you'll usually end up feeling weaker, tired, and like you're about to faint. If you're not careful, you could actually faint, which is what has sent me to the hospital so many times, so make sure to ALWAYS bring water and drink plenty of it!

Otherwise, it could just be simple exhaustion. Sometimes the body is just too tired. It could have had something to do with your stress levels, the amount of work you did during the day, or the amount of sleep you got the night before.

But I'm betting it was just the need for some h2o.

i have an illness affecting my back and water plays a big role in how i feel, it sounds daft but it does. ive been told i need at least 2 litres of water a day ( i can now p*ss the surface area of the moon tho, lol ) its great for rehydrating your bones and great for your skin, tea and coffee can strip the benefits of water so try to avoid lots during the day and before a workout.
regarding weakness do you take any supliments as these would help to build muscle and give you the energy you might require for a great workout.
hope this helps ya, ashey

No, this sounds like you were, for some reason, not as ready as you thought you were. Either your muscles were not as recuperated as you thought or you were not as motivated. It also has to do with what you ate over the course of your lay off. If you didn't eat much or you ate garbage, then your muscles will not be full and not be ready to lift.

Weight training does not stop at the gym, it is a lifestyle with rules and disciplines.

Probally...my take on the whole water consumption thing is there shouldn't be a moment in your day that you are not drinking water...there should be a water bottle with you at all times. I love the Poland Spring bubbly water with a light taste of lime or rasberry...not sweet these ones are mostly sour but i like that and i take them everywhere.

could also be your pre-workout meal your body burning the right nutrients while your working out. If your stomach is on E your going to lift like it. Water has a big part in it too though. Drink water prior to workout too so its pumpin though your body not chugging it while lifting becaue it takes awhile for your body to absorb the water instead of just sitting in your stomach.
EDIT: Carbs BCAA's and Caffein play a big role in pre-workout meals
