I wasn't sure how to word the questions so let me explain real quick.

I'm a Christian and I'll be the first to admit that some (even many) Christians can be self-righteous and judgemental and interject in peoples lives, but not all of us do. I have seen many angry remarks on YA and was just wondering what are some of the reasons/actions that Christians have turned you off or even hurt you to make so many of you feel this way.

Hopefully many will be open (without taking cheap shots) to truthfully answer this.

Typo: What instead of why.

And I don't want to come off sounding like i'm making accusations, just wondering how people feel.

Because most religious people aren't content with keeping their religion private, instead they try to enforce their religious views in the classroom and government.

I never answer in a negative or bitter way. I think some do for two reasons, either they are just fed up with being harassed or condemned or they just can't stand the fact that someone else believes in something they consider to be childish, stupid or imagainary. Also, sometimes the questions are just designed to start a fight. People could not take the bait but this isn't real life so people will answer in a crappy way just because they can.

It really works both ways though. There are self righteous, judgemental people on both sides just eager to feel superior to someone.

No, it wasn't the Christians that turned me off of Christianity at all. It was the religion itself, I object to too many of it's core teachings to be a Christian. I felt like something was missing when I was a Christian, not anymore; I am very happy and get great fulfillment with my current religion. I'm not angry or bitter towards Christians at all; Christianity just isn't for me.

I can seem angry or "bitter" about Christianity because I tend to get touchy when someone comes up to me and starts talking about how my life isn't good enough for their god, or how science is either a) incredibly blind and stupid or b) engaged in a worldwide conspiracy of deception for the sole purpose of discrediting the Bible, or sometomes when they try to get their personal dogmas validated by law.

I also get irritable when a Christian proclaims their "pity" (ie: contempt) for non-Christian faiths, and actively spread deliberate misinformation about them. When there are claims of "moral authority" for everyone else or claims of blatant injustice as being somehow "just" because of what someone's ancestors may or may not have done.

I get REALLY irritable when attempts are made to rewrite history or science without evidence, and when said attempts are defended by proclamations of dogma. I also tend to get very testy when I get accused of worshiping or working for the ultimate boogeyman Satan...again without any evidence beyond the fact that I disagree.

It's very hard to have an intelligent conversation with someone who is convinced that God is on their side and shares their views. It's even harder to put up with their efforts to try to shoehorn the world into their idea of what it should be rather than the way it is.

Sorry I'm a Christian too. I just wanted to say that this is a good question. I have wondered the same thing. You can't go to R&S without seeing some one blast a believer in God for having that belief. Take Care.

I am a christian now but before I was I hated ( and I use that word cause I did hate alot of stuff) the fact that others were so certain of their beliefs and I bounced around from theory to theory. plus I didn't think it was possible to be a christian and have the life I was living (which was not the right path )I wasn't ready to give up all the worldly ways and I didn't like it when others would throw uppity ways in my path. You see we can help guide but unless they are ready there is no way you will persuade anyone who is not ready. You see when you apply the golden commandments to yourself than it is not so hard to understand you don't have to love the world all at once just God with all your heart and then your neighbor (not someone around the world) just someone you know who is in need of kindness. Like my mom always said you can't plant but one seed at a time.

I'm not angry or bitter. I just believe in a different mythology than you do. Some christians can get down right ugly on Y!A about what I believe (not in real life, for the most part, though) and I'm bound to get a little snarky in return.
Peace )O(

I think that you are just witnessing human nature in action...

People tend to get stressed out and then look for a place to aim their words... usually someone whose lifestyle they have a problem with.

It doesn't really matter whether they are christian or non.

I know that I was turned off to Christianity because of political reasons - it's hard to explain to many Christians that you already know... that you've heard their "evangelism" a thousand times and you're not going to change your mind... I think a lot of people get frustrated by that.

i was once christian and the core teaching did not help the people in it in fact it hurt most of them manly the children, the kids don't learn social skills some of them do or right but most don't. I'm talking about 40 year old virgins who will never get a life.

i plan on doing a big write up about it i have not written yet.

This is not intended as a cheap shot. But most of us atheists who find your belief system so mindboggling and arbitrary are truly frightened at the level of influence YOUR belief system has over OUR lives.

And the reverse of this is not true. I am not interested in having a say in your belief system, which is yours and yours alone to do with what you choose, whereas our legal system and government is for everyone, and was divided for this very reason.

As to why, Christianity gets attacked? You don't see a very large Hindu political lobby do you?

I am not angry or bitter.

do I get annoyed and frustrated often?

You bet.

It becomes particularly annoying when Christians think and act like they understand my religion better then I do.

And you can tell when many ask the same four or five different questions.
