They are as common, and with internet technology people can tell the whole world they are getting them. Here is a site where some woman, I would advise those close to her to have her checked out medically, claims god told her through visions that the world will end this year. http://www.2007rapture.com/vision/

It is convenient to make visions happens in the distant past,as it is not easily verifiable. Today, it is a very rare happening, there is no visions of god. The few visions experienced by individuals, maybe the mind is playing tricks. Group vision are somewhat more credible, but does not happen today.

Im not sure anyone ever saw a vision of god.. Now .. there was one instance that God appeared as a cloud by day a pillar of fire by night and a burning bush.. But as far as a personal one on one nope dont think so and well maybe God does appear to people now and if God does im sure its a private thing.. comes in dreams or visions and people are not of the mindset they used to be now they think everything is hallucination

Humans have become more enlightened and less ignorant over the years. In biblical times, people believed most things told to them. (And they were killed or imprisoned for questioning things.) That's why people believed in "visions" and miracles and things in those days that we now understand are just stories.

People were a lot more superstitious back then. Also, myths can get more and more fantastic the more they're told. The fish Uncle Joe caught was three feet long the first time he told about it, but by the sixteenth telling it was eight feet long.

It happens often today. Also people hear his voice. Feel his touch. Get healed. There are even miracles. Find a church where people are excited about God and ask their Pastor about what God has been doing that he knows of personally.
The "media" is just afraid to let you know.
