Only if a Dr percribes it. This is why children develop into overly concious women with eating disorders......... I am sure you are concerned about her too - since you have decided to ask us' over here. I wish I could help. I truly think a 12 year old needs to have a well balanced diet that includes physical activity. I would not cut proteins in a growing female child..... Nt a good idea. If extremem weight loss is needed for reasons of morbid obesity - then perhaps a Dr would perscribe medication such as Xenical along with councelling and a nutrition plan....... The special K diet shouldn't even be considered for healthy Adults unless they are doing it because they simply love Special K.........

She needs to talk to someone or consider a more realistic diet. If seeing a Dr is not an option, I HIGHLY recomend a great new book out called "You on a Diet"........ It is on sale right now since everyone has already failed their resolutions (as far as the retail giants think).......... It is an awesome book and I love it for it's simplicity in diet and nutrition - as well as ow easy it is to read, picures, recipes, diagrams - and best of all - this book is not Byast....... It even has a chapter completely devoted to legitimate DR PERSCRIBED medications and drugs that can aid in the loss process........ Xenical in particular could be considered for a 12 year old if needed since it only prevents fat from absorbing in the body and does not mess with the delicate system of a growing teen.. Not an Upper or appetite supressant or anything. Check it out. You will be glad you did. I think Walmart is even selling it now........... This book is AWESOME. So far, I've lost 37 pounds and it seems effortless (truly)........

No! At 12 years old, you should not be dieting at all unless you are excessively overweight and under the care of a doctor. You are doing a lot of growing now and need more nutrients then a diet designed for adults will give you. If you really feel that you need to loose weight, talk to your doctor about it so that he or she can set up a safe, healthy diet for you.
