Ive been taking liquid Guaifenesin w/ codeine for a heavy cough for the past 4 days, the bottle is gone now and im looking to start back up my search for a job. I was told by a friend that this will show up on a drug test just as if i was using vicodine. I threw the bottle away, and im scared if i have a drug test it will look as if im on drugs. Can anyone tell me if this medicine will show up on a drug test? or if its possible to get written proof from a doctor about the presciption?

Codeine is a narcotic, a derivative of heroin and is regulated and prescribed by a doctor. It will most likely show up, so mention it to the employer or tester (they will likely ask you if you have been taking any prescription drugs anyway AND might even ask you to come back some fixed time later after it will have cleared your system) and getting the doctor who prescribed it to write a note will help. Good luck!

It doesn't stay in your system that long. It's just codeine. If you are that worried go back to the pharmacy and tell them to print you a receipt for the drug. That way you can show that it was prescribed for you.

Yes, the meds will show up as drugs. You have to explain, before you take the drug test, all the medications you are on. Taking your old meds is not against the law. If you are taking Vicodin along with cough syrup/codiene, it sounds like you are abusing drugs. And your probation officer is not stupid...you're not sick, you're getting high..!
