If you want to see a six-pack, or any definition in your stomach, you need to lose the fat around your stomach first. Spot Reduction (that is, doing situps, assuming that it will burn fat around your stomach) does not work on almost 90% of people (surprisingly it works on me... everywhere except my gut). Ever wonder why scrawny guys who don't play sports and eat whatever they want still have definition, and probably a 6-pack? Its because they have very little body fat %. That is, almost none of their body is fat.

Doing situps won't help you lose belly fat at all, it will build muscle underneath the fat on your stomach.

What you have to do is lose that fat, and to do that you have to do lots of Cardio. Go on a treadmill, stationary bike or elypitcal trainer for 30 minutes, three or four times a week, before your workout. If you don't notice results, do it 5 days a week (5 should be enough for anyone). If you still aren't noticing results after 2 monthes, look at your diet, reducing carbs, increasing lean proteins, and generally just eating right.

If you do all of this and still don't have a 6 pack or a loss of belly fat, than it may not be in your genetics. Its a bummer, but true for some people.

Sit-ups don't loose belly fat, they strengthen the abdominal muscles which allows them to support the fat better (instead of the weight of the fat pulling the abdomen out the muscle pulls it in). The only way to loose the fat is for coloric output to exceed caloric input.
