Ironically, not as many as people that are exposed to second hand smoke for 8 hours or more a day-- like people who work in bars and don't smoke. Your lungs may be bad but to a nonsmoker, that smoke is toxic and causes more irritation to a nonsmoker than a veteran smoker of 10 years--- don't get me wrong here, you still have a high incidence of dying from smoking, but it depends on how many years, how many packs a day, and how old you are now- and did you know that if you quit today in one year you lungs will look as good as new?....it's true- ask a doctor...............

I quit about 25 years ago. I'm sorry to say I have seen people die from lung cancer. I also know some that had to use oxygen and continued to smoke while they did. Watching someone with lung cancer wear an oxygen tube in their nose and have a cigarette in their mouth at the same time kind of makes you wonder about their intelligence.

There are more variables to this question than you might think. That's why statistics aren't always accurate.
Ex: Did you know that France, where 1/3 of all adults are smokers, have the lowest cancer rate in the West? How could this be?
By no means condoning smoking. Just wanted you to consider this fact, too.
