Again we have proof that the Americans are putting lethal weapons in the hands of inexperienced servicemen with the all too predictable results.
When will this nation realise the value of non Americn human life?

Remember the incident in the Gulf war where the British _twice_ assured the American pilot that no friendly troops were in the area? How the British covered this up while blaming the American pilot?

Makes me wonder if the British are giving out the whole story or if they are trying to cover up something - again.

Well lets look at the facts:

5 british soldiers or airmen have been killed by friendly fire in Iraq.

2 when a Brit jet was shot down by an American patriot missle.

2 when a brit tank fired on another brit tank.

1 when the American A-10 fired on Brit forces.

Since American forces out numbered British forces 10 to 1 in Iraq, you would think that American caused blue on blue would be 10 times higher.

But we see that 40% of the British blue on blue casualties were caused by the brits themselves.

Leading me to think that the Brits had ought to watch out for thier fellow Brits and not worry about Americans so much.

Not one of the people answering this as sine question have ever been in combat! Get a clue when you have been shot at over several hours and you expect to get shot at again any second then it is easy to make a mistake when someone breaks training and does what you do not expect>>> the result is blue on blue and a friendly dead or casualty.

Absolute hooey. Clear your minds, folks, for a bit of perspective. I hope you will listen with an open mind.

The US military, especially in Iraq, operates under the most stringent fire control ROEs (rules of engagement) in the history of modern warfare. Friendly fire incidents occur because the US is conducting close in, precision combat with an embedded insurgency in Iraq. By doing so, they expose themselves to extreme danger and increase the chance for blue-on-blue incidents in a difficult urban environment. If the US conducted warfare like most of other militaries in the world (incl Russia and China), they would simply engage from a distance with stand-off weapons, greatly reducing the risk to their troops, but catastrophically increasing the deaths of innocent civilians. As it is today, the US troops put themselves at far greater risk to avoid the taking of innocent lives.

The US should be applauded for its responsible and restrained military conduct, and the men and women of the US military should be hailed for their courage and sacrifice, not derided by ill-informed commentators.

Never.

As far as I can see it has always been dangerous to be on the same side as the Yanks.

Of course the Yanks still think that they saved the World during both Worl Wars.

The best thing anyone can do is to be at least 2000 miles from any American military activity.
