A good dermatologist can do several procedures. One is a chemical peel. My sister in law had one done for acne scars. Her face was really red and weepy for about a week. But when she healed she did look a lot better.
I would try something like scar derma first to see if it might work for you. I used it on a couple of scars I had on my face from a motor cycle accident and now you can barely see them.
I guess it is up to the person and how much you want to pay. And how much you want to go through.
But I would try the scar derma first before shelling out a load of money for a dermatologist,
Good Luck!
Kali :-)

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symptoms and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.
Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

Clear.now (pronounced clear - dot - now)
It’s a 3-step acne treatment system utilizing patent-pending sodium chlorite combined with salicylic acid to keep pores clean, clear, and cared for.
I've been using it for about a year....after a couple of weeks I started to notice a dramatic difference. It even got rid of the dark marks that came up on my nose from wearing glasses for 6 years!

it depends on if it's discoloration or depressions in the skin, or both. if it's discoloration, you can try cremes with 'hydroquinone' available over the counter or prescription. chemical peels can help both somewhat also, but can be pricey. retinol cremes can help some over time if they are mild. laser treatments are the best for the more severe depressed scars, they can build collagen over time. we do these in my dermatology office, but they are expensive, some insurances may cover these treatments, and you can check with your insurance and/or your dermatologist can send a pre-auth to the company to see if they will pay for some/all of it.

neutrogena acne mark fading peel is so awesome. I use it and it starts working the next day!!! (you use it at night before you sleep) within a 2 weeks of using it my skin was awesome!!! you just need to make sure you keep using it because i slipped up on my ruitine one time when we went camping and it was horrible. It costs around 12 bucks at HEB (grocery store)..if you don't have HEB you can get it at wal-mart or somthing for sure.. you gotta use it 2 to 3 times a week nightly...lol..enough info for ya?? haha goodluck =)
