Tithes are a waste of time. Don't brainwash yourself into thinking you really need to give %10 of your income every month. Its your hard earned money. Don't give into the Church or you will go broke. Your problems still won't be solved.

You are right that the Catholic Church had some problems back in the day and I am sure there are some of the same problems today. IT IS A HUUUUUUGGGGGEEEE Church and there will be bad apples. There never was a policy of paying for forgiveness or blessings. That was local Priests and even Bishops doing evil. Instead of reforming the local evil or bringing the abuses to church hierarchy - Luther started his own church and threw seven books out of the Bible he did not agree with. We can debate all day long whether that was the right or wrong thing to do. I don't know about the Mormon church, but they are pretty big on telling you that you must show your tax records to them so they can ensure they are getting a full ten percent of your income. If you don't show this - no temple recommend. That means being able to get married in their holiest buildings and attending secret services there. It almost is as bad as the abuses of old in the Catholic Church. You are having to pay directly for graces and the appreciation of the church. The Catholic Church today does NOT demand any money from its people unless of course you owe tuition or book fees for kids attending school etc. And you decide that too. They understand some people are very, very well off and can give much and others fall on hard times or are scraping to feed their family already AND getting charity through food or rent money FROM the church. The Roman Catholic Church remains the largest private charity on earth and in the USA. Millions are fed, clothed, sheltered, educated and healed daily by various Catholic Churches, schools, missions, universities, hospitals, soup kitchens, shelters, crisis centers and so on. If you are Mormon, I would advise you to be very careful in how you proceed. Be very careful if you are thinking about asking to see church financial records in detail. Find out discreetly first what their policy is on it. You might end up getting grief for asking.

My church was having problems with ppl coming but not titheing. Our pastor sent a letter to everyone.
He used a 3-legged stool as a symbol with the legs being the support of the church. The seat was the church, one leg was 'the giving of one's time for ministries', the 2nd leg had to do with titheing, the 3rd I can't remember.

If you are feeding them meat from God's Word they won't need any reminding. Stop begging. The sheep are starving. Feed them and they will come and they will support a worthy ministry.
