A lot of people talk to themselves and even answer themselves. Maybe he was seeing someone talking to him and so he was talking back to them, there are a lot of people out there that do that. There could be so many reasons why he was doing it, he could of decided to freak everyone out in the store too, or he could be so lonely that he talkes to himself and does not know he is talking outloud, maybe he is MPD and does not know that his people within is talking to each other, alound. And why did you question say "whats wrong with this person i saw in the store. (They) were talking to (themselves). Should that not of read He was talking to himself, so what made you put in the word they, and themselves. I thought that was an intersting thing that you did there. So maybe you should go and see why you stated it that way with a therapist.

Sometimes people have a disorder that is called Paranoid Schitzophrenic or Dementia and Alzheimer's Diseases which enable these people to talk to themselves, it is not uncommon. It does affect people of various ages. Nothing to be alarmed about unless it is something that will hurt you or anyone else including that person.....I hope this information is helpful to you. I work with people of this nature, and believe me it is just as funny as it is sad not to mention rewarding and dangerous.

I too have come across these kind of people. In fact, I myself have spoken to myself at times. That is when I am stressed out too much and just pondering over gives you a lot of strain to your brain. when someone talks to oneself, it is sort of letting it out from your memory .. something similar to talking to friend or writing it out in a diary. This cools them off. But if someone can manage this well, he/she will be healthy. But who cannot manage will have to meet a psychiatrist, since that itself will develop a serious problem.

You didn't say approximate age of this person. Is it possible they had a Bluetooth head set on? I have one with my cell phone in my ear, people might think I'm talking to myself.

Mental illness or Tourettes syndrome. As a person with both of those, I suggest you mind your own business and NOT stare.
