What is so intellectual about believing that the unbelieveable complexity of the human brain(not to mention the rest of the body) is nothing more than re-arranged pond scum. It’s pond scum from the original prebiotic soup re-arranged over billions of years into 100 trillion connections in the brain by luck…..just random chance.
What is so intellectual about believing that dumb mud could somehow bootstrap itself into intelligence over billions of years simply by random chance luck?
What is so intellectual about believing that man is just a lump of slime that somehow evolved into rationality and acquired morality and speech and the ability to build TV sets and rockets and computers.
What is so intellectual about believing that we all came from the nuclear reactors of the stars(where the chemistry of life was developed) and those chemicals eventually came to life(by random chance luck) and then they evolved from the 1st cell to human beings who can now go back to those stars and study them along with the physical laws of the universe?
Isn't it much easier to just believe in a God that created us all?

The answers:

- No traditions because it is wrong to do something merely based on tradition. It must also be reasonable in order to be worthy of doing.

- No celebrations (well I wouldn't know about that, I mean they must celebrate their birthday? new years? and some other secular holidays like 4th of July and other days)

- No God. Well by definition of the word atheism, there would be no belief in God, so I guess this is correct.

- No Heaven. Well, again by definition of the word atheism, I guess there is no heaven or any form or place of spiritual existence.

- Just the grave. Yes, if the person is buried. The person could also be cremated and scattered over some land or sea, or be placed in an urn for house decorations. Who knows what you do with them. But if the life has been good, it would have been worth it. An eternal life of spiritual form in an environment without greed, lust, and all other emotions of a normal human is like life in prison. That would not be worth it. This is also why some condemned prisoners rather have the death sentence than life imprisonment.

where on earth do you get this nonsense?

I have love, I have a connection to nature and to humanity. I have a passion for learning and many interests.
I celebrate the birthdays of those I love.
I celebrate the Pagan holidays, in honor of the Earth.
I even celebrate Christmas.
I observe Irish traditions and family traditions.
I don't have a grave, nor will I ever. I will be cremated.

I'm guessing that they celebrate many of the major holidays without God in it. Being a Christian, I still think it's unfair to say that intellect is all they have. Atheists still have a lot to offer the world, and God has a lot to offer them too, but we all make a choice about it. I just hope that the Christians that some of the previous responses are calling stupid haven't driven them away from God because they acted self-rightous or judgemental.

It doesn't keep one from enjoying Christmas decorations, being with family and friends, Thanksgiving Dinner, Easter Eggs and other celebrations. All this joy with out the burden of dragging dogma and mythology around. A more pure intellect, yes. As for the grave, that is where my worm out physical remains will be. I will be gone, you forgot, it's all over then.

No. There are plenty of traditions that don't involve christianity, and it is possible to be glad to have family and friends without attributing them to god. I celebrate every day that my daughter and I are alive, healthy and free from the oppression of christianity.

You left out love, friends, art, music, successful and fulfilled lives unburdened by fear of imaginary beings or the physical universe.

If there were a god, atheists would know who to thank for their superior intelligence, pure souls, and good looks. As it is, we just have to live with all this good fortune that our innate abilities have allowed us to achieve.

Maybe that is the reason we have no fear or regrets about our inevitable deaths. We’re smart enough to know that worrying about it just a waste of the good time we’re having living

And monotheistic believers have a God, heaven, hell etc which they cannot even begin to describe.
The grave is the inevitability for ALL, irrespective of what you believe while alive

The grave is only for after you die. After which, there are no traditions/celebrations/gods for you either.

you mean traditions like circumcision? you mean celebrations like the Shia Islam's Ahsoura, where people self-flagellate until they bleed? You mean a God that would kill 230,000 people in one day with a giant wave? You mean a Heaven where someone gets to explain how all of that just mentioned actually bespeaks of a caring, loving supreme being-and-slave master?

No thanks.
