hi, what do you think has greatest medical discovery of the last 100 years and why? Some people say the discovery of DNA...why is this considered so vital in modern medicine?

From the point of view of lives saved, probably the wide-spread use of vaccines to prevent potentially deadly outbreaks of smallpox, influenza, etc.

Computers. They allow us to do amazing things.
Something more specifically medical? I'm thinking antibiotics.
My friend the Paramedic student says emergency medicine - the advances there have saved uncounted lives.
Why is DNA so vital? Because DNA are the rules of life - Once we can understand and manipulate DNA, we can control all aspects of life. Period.

discovery of DNA and vaccines are the best things that has happened in medicine.
although DNA discovery has lead to other things outside medicine, like crime inveigation and other stuffs.
so i wll go with DNA mapping

Because it makes identifying deceased persons easier, and can find murderers easier. I think that key-hole surgery is a big advancement too because people don't have to be unconscious for as long as before, and don't have to be left with big ugly scars.

knowing the composition of DNA and it's functions has allowed us to learn and fight diseases better. You have to know the WAY basics of a system/organism before you can understand why that system/organism works or reacts the way it does.
