Where is this school? Every Brazilian I have ever met took an average of 10 years training 2x a day 5 days a week. Never in Brazil could you get a black belt in 3 years. A purple belt maybe. I find it hilarious that in other martial arts you get a black belt in 3 years. I guess that why the majority people feel most black belts are meaningless if it only takes 3 years to get it. For me martial art is a constant growth and ascencion for your whole life time. At our academy we offer training 5 days a week and 3 times a day. The classes are 2 hours long. If you would like to challenge this idea you need to state the location of the academy where you can get a black belt in 3 years(I know it's not in Brazil) or if you know anyone who has gotten in one in such a short time. I appreciate all the great answers. Aloha.

If all the student is interested in is the black belt he can go to the store and buy a nice black belt much easier then getting it at the dojo.

Sadly many students go into the martial arts with a goal of getting a black belt and they want it as fast as they can get it. This is where the "belt factory" dojos come in and they hand out black belts like they are going out of style. If you have one eye on the destination then you can only have one eye on the road before your feet.

I have seen BJJ studios give out black belts within 4 years and I have seen many people with black belts from all arts that did not earn them or at least didn't know how to fight. All the better for those of us who know what to look for in a dojo and know how to train properly.

BJJ is still one of the hardest to receive. I have a co-worker that has a six year old daughter in a martial art. She is a high ranking belt. She can literally have a black belt by middle school. My daughter in JuJitsu has been doing it almost 2 years and is just now ready for yellow. I also think my daughter has better overall technique.

You can buy black belts now at certain schools. Instructors want to make a living and they do it by making people happy. A person paying enough can go around and say they have a black belt. In reality there skills might not be very good in a street fight.

Personally I don't think Belts don't mean near as much as competition. I will be much more impressed with someone who competes regularly and does well then someone who has a black belt.

3 year old kids are not in "school". They are were housed in daycare facilities expected to do everything told to do without question. Something either at home or school has changed to cause this behavior. If nothing at home has changed, then a change of day care providers is in order.

You can get one in 1 day with enough money. Some people just pay their way.
