Isn't that what the Mormon's did? There are tons of Churches in this country that have their own doctrine - many of which have opinions about the bible, but are not based upon it. What I want to see is someone who starts a religion that tries to explain to people that we are all talking about the same thing - one that celebrates the similiarities and the different facets of the Unknowable Truth. Let's have an online spiritual group that costs virutally nothing that creates unity and peace around the globe - now THAT would be something worth doing.
Peace!
PS - why should anyone be willing to die for their spiritual beliefs? Why should mortality ever come into it, other than to suggest what happens after death?

Amazing how many ignorant Anti-Mormon's post here. Okay if you don't believe in mormonism and Joesph Smith but you all of you have really little idea about what you're talking about in regards to the Book of Mormon and if you actually did you would see how nearly impossible it would be to write a book such as the Old/New testament or even the Book of Mormon with out truely being inspired from God himself.
However to answer the question directly, you're more than welcome to try, just know that every critic (as you can see by the people here) and every "expert" will rip apart what you write and do anything and everything to prove you wrong even when they are. That is how Satan works, he'll lie to your face that sky is not blue when you can perfectly see that it is.
Just be prepared for anything.

You could write it but nobody would believe you. And if you did manage to to gain some followers, people would probably say you're starting a cult. Unlike with textbooks which are updated regularly, holy books like the bible are seen as more credible because they are old. That doesn't make any sense to me. You wouldn't use a book written by hippocrates as the guide to performing a surgery, so why would people use equally old books as instructions for life?

You certainly can do just that. You are entirely free to do just that. The problem will be a coherent theology gathered over your 3000 plus years of writing. There will also be the issue of several councils which will debate the merits of the chapters and their relevance to your main theological issue. Oh - the first 1/3 has to be orally transmitted only.
Otherwise - go for it and send me a copy. I'll enjoy the read.

My Dear Friend,
Sure! Why not? If you feel like, if you think you are getting signals in your inner, if you think you have lot to say or just for fun, please do that. You will be surprised once you will finish your writings that how much you know and how much you tell people. It is very good thing to do. Only one important thing that once you write and say something, you will have to follow that direction in your life also and you can not change those words one you have put on paper.
Good Luck!

Uhm...that's pretty much what happened with every religious text in existence. Someone wrote it, and then called it the word of God. Funny, you'd think a god could actually write its own words if it wanted to, huh?

You can, however it's just hard to invent new Gods because there are too many witnesses who would see that your claims of supernatural mumbo-jumbo were BS.
You can still ride the Christian god for awhile, and I encourage you to do so. If you give them the crap they want they will throw you money as fast as they can.
Of course it's not honest, but then neither is their religion.

You can write a book—why not ask for inspiration first?
