I don't know if I actually have shin splints or not, but whenever I get back from ballet mys shins hurt a lot and I can't seem to stretch them or anything and so I'm not sure if that's shin splints or something else. And I never dance straight on cement... also what do I do to treat them?

First of all, if you a doing ballet you are on a floor that is almost as hard as cement. You can stretch them by sitting on the floor and pointing your toes down. It helps if you do one foot at a time with the help of your hands to point them down. As for treatment , use ICE!! Shin Splints are micro tears to your peroneal tendon from over use. Try and rest your legs for a few days with ice and STRETCH.

Peace

If you have shin splints (or if you want to prevent them) the best thing I would tell you to do is see a chiropractor.
If it is just muscles instead pick up a book called The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It deals with muscles (which are involved if bones are) pain, and referred pain.
