They have to be DOT (dept of transportation) approved, or they are not legal.

Yes smoked out taillights are illegal, how in the world do you think someone will know when you hit breaks, you have to have the whole red light showing when you hit breaks,or you will be find and giving a ticket.

According to the law of many states nationwide, as long as the aftermarket turn or tail lense is DOT approved they cant say otherwise it should be legal to put on your car. Beware for there are alot of product out there that is not DOT approved. Best way you can find out, look at your original tail lense. Notice there is a raised letter and "DOT" following by a series of #'s. It should have something similar to that effect on the after market product. I hope this helps.

if you want to get them i say do it, BUT save your original lights, cause if you do get pulled over you will get whats called a fix-it ticket and it will only be about $15 and all you have to do it put it back in place, then after the ticket is delt with put them back on
