Elijah, in order to demonstrate that Yahweh was more powerful then Baah, proposed a simple test. Two alters, one for Baal, one for Yahweh. Both would include a blood sacrifice. Whichever God struck fire down from the Heavens first, to light the sacrifice, would win.

Yahweh won.

I would like to propose a similar contest, but between Yahweh and the Flying Spaghetti Monster. But instead of a blood sacrifice of a cow, the sacrifice would be one of pasta.

Any takers?

Don't forget that Elijah pre-poured water around the sacrifice as proof of God's magnificent power while the priests of Baal hoped the dry wood would catch fire by cutting themselves the way they cut those children offered by parents as sacrifices to Baal / Molech. If I were you, I would think twice. This is the same God who set the Big Bang in motion, unless you believe the energy for that appeared out of nowhere.

Hmm... isn't there a verse that says something like "You shall not put the Lord your God to the test."?

God did the sign to the prophets of Baal to send a message to His people about who He was, and that Baal was nothing. God has sent us message after message, and we still didn't get it. Finally He sent us His own Son, whom we murdered. The cherry on top was that He raised His Son from the dead, as a sign to all of us of His power. And yet the human race still continues to reject Him. After all this, we still want to test Him, we still keep saying "Show us a sign!". He has done it over and over already.

Luke 16:29-31, at the end of the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, has the right man in Hell talking to Abraham from afar. He is begging Abraham to raise Lazarus from the dead to go and warn his brothers of the torment of Hell, so they can repent of their sins. Abraham responds "They have Moses and the prophets (refering to the Bible); they must respond to them." The rich man says, "No, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.", implying that if they saw a sign like the dead being raised they would believe. But Abraham said, "If they do not respond to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead."

We see this all throughout the Bible, God doing miraculous things and people not believing. From Pharaoh to the Pharisees, it is a repeating cycle. And history is still, unfortunatly, repeating itself.

Hmm... but I do know I have some leftover spagetti upstairs in the fridge...
