Whey helps as a protein supplement to rebuild and feed the muscles your training. You will see the greatest benefits if you take it right after your workouts. They are other sources of protein if you don't feel comfortable using whey like fish, chicken, tuna and egg whites. I run alot but still mix in a couple of whey protein shakes every week when I don't have time to fix a meal.

What type of athlete are you? If you are a typical person you do not need to supplement your diet with protein, you already get enough in your diet as it is. Too much protein can do harm, especially to your kidneys.

Whey protein will help you, but if you do not exercise on it you will get fat. That is what protein does, it gives you long lasting energy, whereas carbohydrates give you quick bursts of energy.
