I have to get one of mine taken out, it is fully grown in and doesnt hurt, but i have to get it taken out since i cant brush it well. The dentist said he is just going to "wiggle" it out. He said he is going to locally numb it, I wont be put to sleep, hes not an oral surgeon. Is this going to hurt?

I just got back - it took 5 mins literally! I cant believe I was afraid of that! I was shaking, and then I was like, thats it? I hope it doesnt start hurting a lot later though. Thanks everyone.

no it won't hurt to have it taken out, but it may be sore for a day or two. should be nothing to worry about.

I hope I can put your mind at ease!

This is a simple extraction. If it wasn't, you would have been referred to an oral surgeon.

You will receive a local anesthetic, so you will not feel a thing! You will feel presure though! Try not to confuse the 2. Alot of patients think that pressure is pain. Not saying that you will, its just fact.

After the extraction you should be instructed to withhold from brushing for 24 hrs., do not make a sucking motion (like drinking from a straw) for a few days(to prevent dry socket) and if the bleeding doesn't subside in a half an hr. bite on a moist tea bag.

You'll be fine! It's worth it. Otherwise you are risking decay of that tooth. We really don't need our 3rd molars, they are a left over trait from our ansestors.

I had to have all four of mine pulled and I thank God I decided to pull them all at the same time. I was put under for the procedure so obviously I felt no pain. However when I awoke, that was a different story. This was also 10 years ago...who knows, with today's technology it will probably be a piece of cake. I am sure your Dentist has done this procedure a million times and is very familiar with effective pain control. I would not worry. My husband had one of his removed because it was infected and they numbed him and he said he felt nothing but a slight bit of pressure from the actual extraction. I hope all goes well....and ask for some Percocet just in case :>) I hope I didn't frighten you...I know I would like the truth.....

I had two wisdom tooth pulled a little over a year ago. They were pulled out a month a part. One was impacted the other one wasn't. Neither one had to be cut out. I wasn't in pain. They gave me two shots of Novocaine each time. The only thing I felt was pressure. The one that wasn't impacted gave them the most problem. My mouth got tired as it took more than 30 min. to pull it out. I didn't even have to take the 800 milligram Motrin he prescribed.I took something on the way home and that was it. It was a little sore the next day.

If its sticking out and not embedded under the gum then it shouldn't hurt. Mine didn't. Wisdom teeth get the reputation of being painful because a lot of peoples are impacted because they don't have enough room for them to come in... so then the dentist has to go in and surgically cut them out...now THAT can be painful.

It's more awkward than it is painful since they have to get to the back of your mouth to pull it. But it should come out quickly... They will give you guaze to "bite" down on afterwards, I'd put some ice on your cheek when you get home. They will probably prescribe some "Tylenol - 3" which contains codeine.

You'll do just fine and will be relieved when it's all over!

hey u said its fully grown so u dnt have to worry coz 90% of people will have there wisdom teeth embedded within bone and gums and thy will have to undergo minor surgery but urs is a simple extraction.. just take medicine as ur doctor say and give a little more importance to ur hygiene for few days atleast..ul b fine and it wnt hurt..

You won't feel a thing if they put enough numb medicine in your gums.
