I left a box(4 sticks)of butter out from yesterday to tonight. My house was never more than 73 degrees...can I still put it in the fridge to use for baking during the week? Have you done this? Thank you! ....I hate to waste it if I don't need to.

Sure- no problem! Butter is all fat, and it doesn't go bad that fast if the termperature was under 80 degrees. Not to worry...go ahead and refrigerate it. Also, in case you didn't know, when you buy refrigerated butter, you can freeze it almost indefinitely. Happy eating!

Yeah you can leave butter out of the fridge. That's why they sell those butter covers so people can set the butter on their tables so it will be nice and soft for them. You know how stiff real butter can be when you first take it out the fridge? It's so hard to spread.

I actually keep butter (one stick at a time) in a butter dish on my counter so it's nice and soft for spreading on toast. It never goes bad. As long as your home doesn't get warm enough to melt the butter, which would make a mess, it should be fine.

If it still smells ok, it's probably fine. People used to keep butter out on their tables all the time without ever putting it in the fridge. If you have a cat, try the cat test -they have a much more sensitive sense of smell than us - feed a bit to your cat - if they eat it, it's ok. If they turn their nose up, it's not - works for meat too.

Butter is good for days out of the fridge. Especially salted butter. I always keep my butter out of the fridge so its soft. I keep it for like a week.

Actually, I put butter in the butter dish and leave it out. I dont like to keep the butter dish in the fridge, cuz hard butter is too impossible to spread on your toast. But, I do keep it refriderated before I use it. Its OK to pit it in the fridge. It shouldnt spoil easy,NOR in one night. But, If you eat it, and it tastes like Blue Cheese. Throw it out.

It'll be fine. Butter will last a few days at room temp, the salted type lasting longer than unsalted.
