Before you read anything in the Bible, be sure to pray for God to give you holy spirit to help you understand what you are reading. Then, the best thing I have found is take little bites on a regular basis (every day is best.). Read no more than 5 chapters. Then, ask yourself, who was writing this? Who were they writing to? What is the subject matter? What does it tell you about the sort of person God is? How does it fit in with the entire theme of the Bible? (The vindication of God's name by means of his Kingdom Government under the rulership of his son, Christ Jesus) How can you apply what you have learned to your own life? How can you share what you have learned with others?? (What is the best way to present it to them, etc.?). Keeping a journal will help you to organize your thoughts and inspirations and will help keep it all fresh in your mind. It will also be great when you read these same scriptures again in several years because you will be able to see how much you have grown spiritually.

I get pretty excited just knowing that I'm reading the words of the Most Holy, Most High God! First off, do you have a Bible that you're comfortable reading? Many people consider the King James to be the most faithful translation, but some are a little put off by the archaic language. The New American Standard is another good one, and is much easier to read. Pray beforehand. Ask God to let His truth enlighten you as you read His word. Ask Him to bless you with wisdom and understanding. And TRUST Him to do it--He will! You may want to try skimming quickly through the passages you want to read, then going back and reading them again, more carefully, paying close attention to the words and what they are really saying. When you come across a portion that seems especially meaningful, or difficult, go over it a few times out loud, then pause and reflect on it. Keep a Bible dictionary nearby, and look up any words you're unsure of. Also, be aware that some parts of the Bible are going to be a little dry, like the listings of genealogies, but don't skip them. Instead, take a break and come back later to the place you left off. Reading God's word is very nourishing to the spirit; it shouldn't ever become burdensome. Hope this helps; may God bless you!

If you read 4 chapters a day, you will get through in 1 year. I read it through 2x a year so I have found these practices helpful in keeping on track:
a) ALWAYS include at least 1 NT chapter in each day's read. Otherwise Lev-Num and 1-2 Chr. will kill any enthusiasm.
b) Underline every time God is mentioned - be careful there are some interesting titles.
c) The word "and" usually equates two objects intimately related. I put // marks through every "and", then look at how they fit and define each other.
d) This past fall, I wrote every God act = healed, said, etc. on the page.
e) By the title of each book, I write the date I read it - an encouragement and also a reminder I can't cheat w/ Philemon 4 days in a row.
f) Pray for wisdom and insight before each read.
g) Write me w/ your questions and I'll be glad to do the research in my commentary library.
God's speed.

You could try reading it Chronologically, that is very interesting. You could find a topic you need help in (love, forgiveness, anger, etc.) find that in a concordance and look up every verse on that topic. You could get any number of Bible studies (either on-line for free or by going to a local Bible book store). If you are in church somewhere, listen closely and write down the different verses of the sermon, then go home and re-read them. Try to find more in the Bible over that topic. Make Bible reading a daily habit, the more you do it, the more you'll learn and the more you'll want to dig deeper and deeper into God's Word. God Bless!

GOOD FOR YOU.

FOR ME, HAVING A VERSION THATS EASY TO UNDERSTAND REALLY HELPS. I HAVE THE LIVING BIBLE AND OTHER VERSIONS TOO.

AS I READ , I WRITE DOWN QUESTIONS I HAVE ABOUT A CERTAIN SCRIPTURE AND HOPE SOMETIME TO FIND SOMEONE TO DISCUSS THIS WITH.

SOME HAVE MISGUIDED IDEAS, SO BE CAREFUL WHO YOU LISTEN TO .

ALSO, IF YOU CAN FIND A BIBLE STUDY AND HAVE A GOOD LEADER AND DISCUSSIONS, THAT HELPS.

ONE DAY I WAS EATING OUT AND OBSERVED TWO MEN WITH A BIBLE JUST DISCUSSING IT OVER LUNCH. IT BLESSED ME AND I COULD TELL THEY WERE REALLY INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE.

ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT TO GIVE YOU UNDERSTANDING......HE IS PART OF THE TRINITY......GOD, THE SON JESUS AND THE HOLY SPIRIT.

ALSO DON'T RUSH .........IT WOULD BE BETTER TO THINK ABOUT A FEW SCRIPTURES THAN TO RUSH THROUGH SEVERAL CHAPTERS AND NOT UNDERSTAND.

MAYBE START IN THE NEW TESTAMENT. IN THE OLD TESTAMENT YOU MIGHT READ GENESIS , PROVERBS AND PSALMS FIRST.

OF COURSE IT IS NOT FICTION AS A FEW MIGHT SAY. THEY ARE IN THE DARK SPIRITUALLY!

Try using a commentary. This will help to give you a better understanding of the scripture which will make it more interesting.
Another why is to pick a topic,Love,Hate,Pride, etc. and focus on that.Skipping from this page to the next book can be confusing and become boring.
Go to "Blue letter Bible" on your search bar and check this site out. There you will find many items to help you out. There are several commentaries to look at on this site but I prefer Matthew Henry.God bless and remember those who are hungry and thirsty shall be filled.

This question you asked tells your affection to read God's word. Once you want to know more, you will start having that thirst. Best is to ask God to help you out.
One thing I found was to read the part from bible, which relates closely to our life. For example, if you dont know anything - Start from Mathew. if you are a believer - Try to follow each commandment Jesus said, read the parables which says about Kingdom of God, cause only Jesus knows the truth about it, as only He has come from above. Jesus also would have revealed a lot about Father God. Go on and on, what Jesus is really trying to tell us. How He want our life to be.. until you are able to be succeed to be like Jesus, but always ask God to help u out. Its difficult for us, but not for Him.

A companion guide is always helpful. That way if you're totally confused, you can use that reference that for help so you don't just give up and get bored. There's loads out there so just do a Google search and you should find a few.

Find and join a good bible study. I am in a ladies' study at my church and I find it more interesting to do the lesson and then come together and share what we each got from our weeks' lesson.
