Judging by all the killings for their god over the years christians have a bad habit of ignoring that entry in their book.

Why are some of you guy putting us into groups? All Christians, All atheists. Why do you do it? Can't you realize that only some ppl do the things Ur talking about not all? I believe that we are all ppl and that's all that matters. There is good and bad in everyone. No matter the race, sex, or religion. We don't do good things just b/c we could go 2 heaven. We just don't want 2 get left behind at the end of days. And we believe that there is a place that's better than were we are now.

Because we don't need god making threats of hell to know the difference between whats right and wrong. It is called integrity, and some people are born without it. A parent can raise their child with all the proper teachings, but that child might still be a mass murderer. Religion doesn't make the world write, or a better place. Hitler was a devout Catholic, and look at what he did. The English try ed to force the Jews to accept Christ. War is what Christianity is good for, and that's about it. If Christians want to do some good, then they need to stop trying to force others to their religion, it just makes them look like a bunch of stalkers for that dictator they call god.

It is not obvious to all. The government doesn't see murder as wrong or how about abortion clinics. How about the parent of a sexually molested child do you think murdering the person who is responsible is wrong? I know I wouldn't. But I also know there are steps in which we as a society have taken to demoralize ourselves. But if you would care to actually study the Bible and Hey I am not telling you to believe just look at the good it would do for society as a whole if we could just all treat each other with love trust and respect. But just for the record I do believe.

Of course it's obvious in today's day and age (to some people). But let's look at when the 10 Commandments portion of the bible was written. It was during a time that human sacrifice was a comman practice among certain pagan religions. So obviously, some peope did and still do need it spelled out for them. Otherwise, there wouldn't be murder in the world.

1- Most people don't need a book to tell them murder is wrong because they have grown up learning it. Some people, however, don't fall into that category. Take into account some of the more aggressive, warlike tribes in Africa or South America, such as the Huaorani (Waodani) of Ecuador, to whom murder was an accepted way of life until missionaries brought them the Bible and the Gospel of Jesus the Christ. This began the process of pacifying their constant infighting and revenge killings, and many Huaorani today are Christian. God knew what He was doing when He stuck that commandment in there (as well as the rest of them).

2- Christians (at least Christians who understand the Bible) don't do good to get a reward. The Bible teaches that the reward we get in heaven cannot be claimed by doing good deeds, but only by believing Jesus the Christ. It can all be summed up in Ephesians 2:8-10~ "For by grace you are saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works (good deeds), so that no one can boast. For we are His workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works (deeds) that God prepared before hand so we may do them."

In other words, there is not a cause and effect relationship between good deeds and salvation (our reward from God). There IS a cause and effect relationship between believing God and salvation, and there is also a cause and effect relationship between believing God and doing good deeds, that is, if you believe God you will do good deeds. Good deeds (that is, effective, God empowered good deeds) and salvation both come from God's grace empowering us through our faith, that is, believing God and taking Him at His word, thereby initiating that relationship with Him that so many Christians talk about. We do good deeds because God in us is good, not so we can get something.

The question really is how do YOU define good? where does that sense of moral guidance come from? If it is just from society/socialization, then the religions of the world, the books you are diminishing are actually very important as they have set the tone of society's moral quibbles for ages...

If you belive that there is something more deep inside us that causes us to feel guilt and shame if you decide not to be the good person I'm sure you are, then you must acknowledge that that inner spark must come from some source. From a survival instinct taught by millions of years of human evolution? Perhaps, but survival has dictacted that murder is the best for self preservation in some instances, yet moral influences would say otherwise. Perhaps something outside of ourselves has hardwired something inside that draws us to goodness, or speaks to us yet today. Perhaps.

Is it just as obvious to say that is is wrong to "hate"? I don't think so - because modern psychology says this is healthy. Hate is a derivative of the Mosaic law against murder, magnified 2000 years ago by Christ - making the old 'obvious' laws harder, or spiritually speaking, meaning that they cannot be obeyed without the Holy Spirit.

Hate leads to murder. Is that obvious to you? Or do you need a book to tell you?

What most of the christians are saying is that if you take a group of people that live in an issolated place with no bible, that their society will collapse and that they will just start murdering each other without thought or remorse. And that you should simply ignore all those civilizations that have existed until the comming of the missionary like you should ignore fossil evidence when looking at creationism.

So athiests naturally honor the authorities and their parents? Athiests naturally honor the intimacy of marriage and avoid the degradation of women found in modern advertizing? Athiests naturally tell the truth in an interoffice debate? Athiests naturally strive only for their own desires and never to compete or compare with another. Athiests are always honest on their tax forms and if they are over refunded?
Marvelous. Out of curiousity - why havethe original 10 Bill of Rights become over 10000 laws in our nation then?

well hey we get rewards in both the present life and the after life!!!Do you need a book to tell you that you need to wipe you butt after taking a dooky? Christians don't need a book to tell them not to murder, we have common sense to tell us murder is wrong...something you atheists seem to lack.
