If you read ahead a little farther, God ordained the eating of meat in Genesis 9:3. Genesis 1:29 was only the begining. After the flood, God allowed peopel to eat meat too. Why? There are tons of theories, like climate change making plants less nutritious, etc. But, whatever the reason, God said it and that settles it.

I'm a Humanist (Satanist) and vegetarian not because I condone eating meat, I just know how it's processed and what goes into the animals before they become a source of food.
I get as much crap about being vegetarian as I do in not believing in god.
Let me leave you with this last little tid bit, when your daughter is supposed to start puberty at around the age of 10 or so and she has her first period when she's 5 ask your self if it's evolution or, if it's the hormones they're putting in the cows?

Dear Friend,
First of all, to those who responded "so poorly" to this question -with nothing but mean aggression, I say "Go volunteer in a 3rd world refugee camp and learn some humbleness and compassion." Or spare us all your melodramatic, juvenile rage.
Back to you, my Friend, and your question: Millions of animals are treated very poorly prior to slaughter, and I can understand why one would oppose eating meat - just on that alone.
My own personal answer as to why humans, of all sorts of religious backgrounds, eat animals is because God gave us dominion over the animals, and over the Earth. God also made many animals carniverous. Have you ever noticed how brutal it is to watch a Lion kill a zebra, or some other prey?
Many believe, such as myself, that all living beings, including plants, have a divine life force. Have you ever sat beneath a 100 year old tree? It definitely seems to have a soul. And, I think that plants can suffer, too. And so, really since every living thing can suffer, and yet we need to eat, my answer is that we strive to take care of our needs in the most compassionate and kind way we can - and try to minimize the suffering of the animals and plants that we expend to nourish our bodies.
Peace!

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob of the Bible ate meat - Jesus ate fish, and I presume (although not mentioned) he ate other forms of meat. If its good enough for them, and God told the Apostle Peter that all foods are good for eating - Im going to eat.
Now if you want to say that its cruel just to hunt for sport and hang animal heads on the wall - hey buddy, I am against actual cruelty to animals. A person should not kill an animal unless its for food -or the animal is suffering.
If you have a problem with that - I dont know what to say. Im not starving just to play along with some foolsihness of yours.
Did you know that scientists have proven that plants have some form of consciousness? If we stop eating animal meat, if we stop eating plants -we die. End of story - in the meantime animals consume other animals and plants for food and live.
Wake up and smell the coffee.

Simply because it has nothing to do with religion. And most of these texts have been modified to support vegetarianism, first during the good old days when agriculture was not so optimized, men depended only on animal flesh as an alternate. so it is not possible for these texts to claim vegetarianism. And lastly, from early signs of civilization we all ate the weaker species, it is natures rule.

You're right. The human body needs a vegetarian diet more than ever. I don't remember exactly what, but I do remember reading that meat contributes to colon cancer. It also has a lot of fat. It doesn't matter how you cook it, it still has more fat than the body is supposed to take in. You can also eat veggie burgers. The way they are now, they taste like the same thing now. Soy is also a very good thing. My son is on a Soy based formula with no lactose or any of that stuff in it.

Okay, for one thing -- addressing people as "you .." is really rude and messed up.
Christians believe that God supplied the human race with animals as food. They are a food supply, and there's nothing cruel about that. There is a reason why humans are basically on top of the food chain/are the most high preditors.
Muslims aren't cruel about that either.
Hindu's don't eat beef. Mmk?
You have your opinons, questions and such. But this was seriously really rude and offensive to these three religions. Who are you to say that kind of thing about other people's beliefs?

why do stupid people like you have to ask stupid questions. In the Bible Jesus gave the people fish to eat so I don't think he has a problem with us eating meat. Oh and if you think we are being so cruel to animals what the hell do you plant eaters think you are doing to plants when you eat them...DUH...You are doing the same **** so don't critisize us before you study the fact dumbass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus is "so cruel" not "socruel" dip ****!!!!!
