Finish the job means stay in Iraq until we kill enough of the Islamic fools who want Death to America that they quit coming.......Then we go somewhere else and see if they will come after us there so we can kill more of them. It does not matter where we kill them as long as we do it somewhere other than here at home! Is that honest enough for you?

"Finish the job" in Iraq means pretty much the same as finish the job on any task.
I have heard the contention that Iraq will be more or less another base from which to operate from - should military action against Iran become necessary. This is only speculation since it has never been said to be any type of official objective. However, it sounds reasonable to me.
Iraq is simply a situation that required air power at the start and troops on the ground to try and complete the stated mission. I believe if Iran strikes out at Israel or any neighboring country, we will destroy their oil fields and military installations from the air. Our carriers off their shore is kind of a reminder that this will indeed be the consequences should they actually try and carry out some of their threats and rants.
Unfortunately, like it or not, I strongly suspect that our presence in the Middle East is a long term commitment - for both stability in the area and our own security.

You missed the point, I see. When we hand over the care to the Iraqi government & military, we plan for them to be trained well enough to stop the Shites. That is the point of being there. Everyone has been told the intention, most have just been ranting so loud they never here the answer.
You seem to think the US is the next Hitler. Iraq, then Iran, & then who is next on the hit list? War must be approved by Congress & was with the same information that the President had. WMD were not discovered missing until months later. Where is the respect for a country that has earned it for over 200 years? God bless the USA!

The mission in Iraq will be finished when there is stability, the Iraqi Security Forces can operate fully, and the government is by, for and of the Iraqi people. We will be successful when Sunnis and Shiites see themselves as Iraqis. The news isn't telling you this, but we are closer to that reality than we have been since we got here.
This has nothing to do with Iran. The current administration has NEVER said it intended to attack Iran. Only the media has hyped that.
One last thing. Air power is to support ground forces. You can't hold ground, or win wars with airpower, alone. To think that shows a lack of understanding in military strategy, tactics, and basic warfare.

Iran wants to keep iraq whole the last thing it wants is millions of refuges streaming across its borders. the leadership in iran is shakey at best he has not the support of the people because he has broken promises that he made when put in office. A war with Iran would bring the iranians together it is better not to attack and le them be. their leadership is in the minority.
To get the job done is a wild excersise in lip service the iraq security forces are so inapet that to turn over even a city block to them would mean loss of it. Bush seems to think that 21000 more troops will get the job done i dont know what he is smoking because 1 million troops wont get the job done it will never be done there. We are positioning ourselves and will stay at the cost of American lives. its all apipe dream and those of you who belive that Bush is a great leader wwell i goota say that great men admit their mistakes will change paths in spite of there ego he cant seem to do it. I just hope that re depolyment for many will stop and that a reduction in troops will take place.

It is a very sad thing Iraq. It is a war we got into based on lies and mistruths when all it comes down to is oil and who gets it. There is no way we can "Finish the Job" in Iraq. That means we have to stay there until all the oil is used up and Iraq is destroyed beyond repair, and still we won't win.

I think that this troop surge is about going after Iran more than getting Iraq under control. I think that the troop surge could slow things down in Iraq, but they have too much history of fighting for them to stop altogether. I wish they would, but I dont think so. Finishing the job to me would mean getting Iraq to operate on its own. Who knows how long that would last though.

At this point reality is hopefully setting in. It's clear that Bush's plan is to keep troops in Iraq for the next two years, and leave the problem to his successor. That way, when we eventually pull out and death and chaos reign, he can blame it on 'the american people' who didn't have the will to win, and on his successor.
If we do, miraculously, bring sufficient stability to Iraq such that they can have a democracy, you can be sure that the elected government won't be friendly to the US or Israel.
