I've seen that. I think It's trash that falls from the back of a truck on the way to the dump maybe? Not sure. But I heard Ghandi once lost a shoe jumping aboard a train, and then threw the other one near it so the poor person who found the shoes would have a pair. Irrelevant, I guess, but it always brings that to my mind :)

The short answer is... gravity, and possibly inertia.

It probably fell off the back of someone's car. It could have been in the back of someone's pickup truck, or perhaps someone left a pair of jogging shoes on top of their car when they were loading up.

The other shoe may be close by. It may have fallen off later, bounced a different direction, or been knocked out of the road by a passing car.

Yes. I have sometimes seen kids in the back seat with their feet stuck out the window while resting/sleeping, so maybe the shoe falls off their feet.

Also, I've seen several baseball caps lying in the road. Maybe they belong to the same people.

Well here's a idea. I see lots of pickups tearing along with all kinds of stuff in the bed. Including clothes. Now for some reason they make no effort to cover or fasten down what there carrying. So when they go there 80 to 90 mph down the road there stuff flies out the back.

Like the other guy said someone probably threw them on a power line to hang and it finally fell. Or it could just be kids playing pranks.
