Half man half horse creatures are called "centaurs"..
Centaurs are creatures we know from Greek Mythology, the half man, half horse creature was put into the sky as a constellation because of the great centaur, Chiron. Chiron was the tutor of many Greek heroes and gods.

The Greeks called it a Centaur. It's interesting to note that many of the half man, half beast legends originated from the Greeks finding the fossilized remains of prehistoric creatures and when they tried to re-assemble the bones they came up with proof that these legends actually existed...

In Greek mythology, the centaurs are a race of creatures composed of part human and part horse. The head and torso would be that of a humans and the rest would be a horse.
