while not cheap, the best is from GHL. They sound great, while many of the 1.8t exhausts sound too much like a fart can. the GHL gives you a good resonance and growl sound.

i knew a guy with it on his 20th anni (also a 1.8t), and it was the best 1.8 ive heard (and ive heard a LOT). Its totally worth the extra money.

The GTI is essentially a type of Golf. The 1.8T is identical between the 2. The difference in output has to do with the ecu, not the engine. The only difference is that some GTI models had twin exhaust, but does not require it. If you are just interested in cat-back, then the system would be generic. It if only from the catalytic converter forward, that you have to worry about things like the turbo flange, manifold single or dual, etc. Smoother bends, larger diameter, and glasspaks will sound nicer, especially in the low frequency range. You will also get better mileage and hp.

It will fit. Golf and GTI are the same car. Only diff for the exhaust system may be whether the tail pipe runs through or under the rear valence. (cut out on bumper)

Magna Flow is the best exhaust system for the vr6. Not sure about the 1.8T.
